Possible MK1 Owner Here.....

Ok folks, was advised to come here by a mate as i am looking at getting a golf, but i have found a project that needs restoring, and if i get it, i will be having it by next week, will post pics up of it, and do a full on project diary of course

if i dont get it i will be moving into the mk3 forum, but im going for the old skool, so if things go well i will be joining you guys


some things i need to know, is what to look for when buying

this car is a gti, but a 1,6 8v with 4 speed box, is that normal?

Yeah the early ones were 1.6 with a 4 speed box! Good luck with it mate, the Mk1 has bucket loads more character than a Mk3  :cool:

undoubtedly the best golf ever!!! :grin: a world apart from the skip on rollers! you just need too check for rust in the usual places like filer cap arch, sills, bottom of doors round the window seals, you'll probably get atleast some rustso just use it as a bargaining tool. I'd have a good look underneath though because alot of the time the nice ones you see are wither falling apart on the inside with rust or they've been totally rebuilt/welded up again and treated. I was looking at the same model but I would of needed it to be a daily aswell :cry:! still want one though

my advice would be to buy one already restored.  someone elses hard work going cheap will save you a fortune in the long run.  be prepared for the worst and then only good can happen  :grin:

Mk3 Golf Gti:Full Milltek system and Decat,K&N filter,mk2 Cam,-1.5 degree camber shims, borbet a's, toyo proxies,hot tuning coils, brembo vented discs, greenstuff pads...Soon to have Eaton Power

mk3 16v 5dr Gti,mintex extreme pads,drilled/grooved discs,lowered,cat back powerflow system,omp panel filter with modified airbox,debadged grill, started prep for spraying, lots to come :D
