1988 8V Golf GTI needs to find a specialist
« on: 28 April 2004, 16:40 »
Hoping some one can help me. A couple of years back I brought a VW Golf GTI 8V, 1988 on an E reg. This car was supposed to be a bit of a run about while I waited for my new company car. But instead I fell in love with it, her, him. The car is absolutely immaculate and I am only its second owner from new. I have decided that I want to restore the car to concourse condition and only use it at weekends when the weather is fine and dandy. But before I tuck it up in my garage I want to take it to a garage for a bit of attention. I was hoping that someone could recommend a VW specialist that not only knows about MK2's but also loves working on them to ensure that my pride and joy looks like it did in 1988 when it first hit our roads.

I live in Milton Keynes but I'm happy to travel to find the right person. No major work needs to be done although I would like someone who knows the MK2 like the back of their hand to have a look at things and give me their opinion.

Also I am looking for a driver?s seat for the car the seat is just beginning to go around the frame can anyone recommend anywhere?

Thanks buddy but I kind of need a name. I don't want a VW specialist I want a VW fanatic, somone that knows what is wrong with the car from the sound of the engine, someone who will love the car as much as I do, someone who will tell me that to bring this up to concourse you should get this done etc.

This car has not been changed in anyway, and that's the way I want to keep it.

Nothing major the drivers seat needs to be replaced due to wear, I need a new 8V speedo I am fed of trying to get them from salvo yards or VW specialists and getting them home to find that the speedo and or computer doesn't work

But really all I want is a Mechanic / Garage that can restore the car to concourse condition as apposed to just changing the oil and checking the brakes

use WagenWheels in Southampton. (www wagenwheels.co.uk).

he is an enthusiast who deals mainly with mk1s, but does mk2s also. he is superb.

he will do any job you want, from basic servicing, to track day preps, to full restorations. the bits he cant do he ships the car/parts out to people who can help.

not the cheapest, not the most expensive either but a true class act.
