Body control means that the wheels stay on the road without the car bouncing all over the place.  Any bounciness is normally the result of tired dampers.  The body control of a well set up Golf2 on relatively fresh dampers and mounts at close-to standard ride height should be exemplary - it's one of the reasons the car is so feted.

You're confusing body control with a firm ride.

Slammed cars aren't driver's cars, or comfortable.

Well said i have had several mark 2s and i cant see much difference in the one i have now for handling, it is on standard suspension and handles every bit as well as my other which had fresh danpers and springs -40 mil and new top mounts. At the end of the day it depends on your chassis design how well the car will take the corners too.

As far as I can make out people start moaning when they slam their cars.

i ride at a stupidly low height.. some say impractical, my dad says stupid, but i like it. but i don't go fast anywhere really!!!
