Revo and DV's etc..

Right, I've been thinking about getting the car remapped for a while now. After reading as much as I could about the various tuning company's I've decided to go with Revo. People who have had the Revo remap seem very pleased with it, and Revo seem to be a very reputable tuning company. I have my car booked in with the Revo agent here in Ireland to get the remap and switch.

I do have one or two concerns about getting it done. Firstly, it's a new car, only about 2500 miles on it so warranty issues are a slight worry. Secondly, I've seen here and on other forums that several cases of DV failure have occurred on cars that have been remapped. I also read that VW are on their 3rd revision of the DV. Since my car is a brand new build, is it safe to assume that I have the latest DV, which I'm assuming is less prone to failure? Is the Forge DV, which seems to be the replacement of choice an absolute necessity for a remapped car? I'd like to keep the car as standard as possible. I'm not really into modding, and don't particularly want to go down the road of changing OEM parts on the engine for aftermarket ones.

Any advice, or experiences would be welcome.

Mine has had a remap with the standard DV for over 3 months now and I've had no issues. I am having a Forge DV fitted on the 10th of this month, but it is purely precautionary. Stick with the OEM DV if you want. You will know if and when it goes anyway.

Just because your car is new dont assume you have the latest version.

If you can afford it get yourself the Forge and then dont worry about it

the forge is ment to give/hold better boost anyway.
it is something i would do even without a remap. but then i like modding and want a better part. only insurance stops me

I had my 2007 gti Revo'd at 1200 miles. After a further 8500 miles my DV failed with a nasty split. I tend to be quite enthusiastic so I think this contributed to the early failing. Also after Revo you're going from aprox 0.7 bar to 1.3 bar of boost. My car had a Revision C DV and I changed it to a Revision G which I believe is the latest version. I'm just waiting to see how long the rev G lasts now. From what I've previously read, the Forge DV was reputed to hold boost for longer. After now understanding how the DV works and changing one, (please correct me if I am wrong anyone) I don't see how the Forge DV would hold boost for any longer. I do believe it is a much more robust device and would probably outlast many oem DV's. Warranty depends on the stealer, some are mod friendly, some are not. I asked my stealer about an exhaust and in general they were ok with this but would not warranty the lambda's. When asked about the DV it was frowned upon. I think they just didnt understand it what it was.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll go with it then and consider changing to a Forge DV after my first service, which I'll get done at 10k, assuming it doesn't go pop before then.

Do you regret getting the Revo? So you're going to stick with the oem DV for now? And was it replaced under warranty without any hassle, and did the dealer know you had a remap or did you tell them about it?

It's the design and materials the standard DV uses which can be a problem - The plastic diaphram can split. As others have said, the Forge DV is a precautionery fit-n-forget item which has been very thoroughly tested and is totally guaranteed by Forge. It's not essential if you have a remapped car with extra boost but it's sensible.

You must tell your insurer about a remap and it's sensible to have an open and honest working relationship with your dealer, or change dealer! My dealer knows about all my mods and I simply switch my Revo to Stock for any servicing session.

Did you tell them about a DV - not like its a performance mod and something easily overlooked.  Fair enough on exhaust, wheels, remaps etc.

....I've lost track of what I have told my insurers but definitely the major or performance stuff. They have run out of space on the policy to write all my mods!!

Absolutely not, I did a fair amount of research before deciding Revo was best for me.
Yes, I'll be sticking with the oem dv for now. I'll see how long the rev G lasts before considering anything else.
No it was not replaced under warranty. When I took it in for loss of power they did a "software update" and said it was fixed. After leaving the stealer I realised it was not. As I have vagcom it was easy to see a boost leak so I just got a new DV and fitted it myself.
Everyone has their own set of circumstances and reasons on whether they decide to tell the dealer about their remap.
