Coolant temp sensors are not available from GSF as the 16v OBDII needs a 2 pin white plug, £26 from VW. This being broken would only effect the car at certain temp ranges i.e. when warmed up. Even then it would only cause the car to overfuel and run rich rather than cause any cutting out.

Pushing the relays in won't make any difference unless they're changed first. Change your fuel pump relay and it will stop cutting out. Simple. If you get a flashing oil light and the car sometimes fails to start then change the ECU relay too.

To take out the fusebox undo the white clips either side of it then lift the lot up and off the hook brackets. You'll need to remove the lower dash trim under the steering wheel to get it off properly.

1M of 3mm silicone vac hose is enough to replace all three hoses on the ABF providing you take a shortcut when refitting the one from the inlet manifold to the manifold pressure sensor in the ECU. The ABF engine tends to have a lot of over-run on it anyway but a break or hidden hole in a vac hose will make this a lot worse. Change them all.

Haha Damn it! you'll love this pete....

UPDATE....

Just went to Euro car parts as its 2 streets away and bought a no 167 fuel pump relay for £10...

Fitted it, took about 5mins, and the car seems to be not stalling or jumping anymore!

took it on a 20 min test drive mixture between dual carriageways/ roundabouts... and it didnt jump or cutout once. I made a point of idling aswell by waiting for large gaps in traffic and idling in neutral for a minute or two aswell.

So far so good- Im still not 100% certain its fixed the problem for good, as it was always worse from cold and first thing in the morning,
Neverless the test drive was a route which usually sees a few power losses!

SO
fingers crossed...

I'll update you soon

Thanks Pete!

I drove the car last night, it jumped once and cut out once in the first minute of driving...

after that it was perfect...

and in a 45min journey round town/ and motorway this morning from cold it was perfect even in rush hour traffic...

(a journey thats seen 6 cutouts on monday)

SO

Do you think that the minor hiccup lastnight was just because the car was taking a few journeys to get use to the new part,

OR is it much more likely that the cars cutting out is being caused by more than one fault, and by changing the relay, Ive fixed ONE of A COUPLE of problems?

Did you clean out the throttle body and the ISV in the end? Definately do them and the vac hoses and you should see an improvement

If you've got the money then there's no problem. If it's going into a VW specialist then first thing they'll do is hook it upto the diagnostics. They might find a crank sensor with an intermittant fault you never know
