VW specialists have the car today...

they say their diagnostics keep coming up with the same fault of the Coolant Temp Sensor thats failing.

This could actually sort the problem, as since the relay was changed, its only now cutting out rearely and only in the first 5mins of driving when cold... (and not at random junctions throughout the journey anymore)...

They said 26 quid from vw but wont be in till Tues...

So I guess I wont know whether its sorted it till then...

Hi,

I also bit the bullet and sent her in to a 'VW specialist'.
In short they changed out MAF sensor (@ ~ £75) and the water Temp sensor @ £23, which I thought was V steep (from GSF I think). (He reckoned it was reading 20deg C out, but I'm not sure I believe that!!)
Also cleaned out (once again) the throttle housing/assy.

Good news is its running very sweet.

Normally I'd have done them one at a time, so unfortunatley I still don't know which bit was really the solution.

FYI. He reckons that MAF sensor is a common fault and 'recommends' that any VW over 6years old to have a new one fitted anyway (which sounds like a good ploy for him!)

Rare for the ECU coolant temp sensor to be so dead that it actually logs the fault. Must be running like a right pig with that broken! The fuel consumption must be a nightmare too! Should run like a dream when that's fixed :)

Yeh mpg has been pretty shocking lately to be honest... not getting over 25 on a 20 min motorway drive that use to see 36+ instantly...

i have the same thing happening with my 16v it revs up and down from cold then fine once warmed up.

wheres the location of the temp switch/sensor everyones talking about? :laugh:

havent got a haynes  :cry:

 :smiley:The car is running spot on! £26 for the sensor and £20 to fit by the specialists...

car now running without any jumps/ stalls/ splutters!

I intermittently get this fault too, would it be a gd idea to do a sticky for it?  Perhaps with an idea as to where everything can be found and how to access it?

Well I think I jinxed myself by posting in this topic  :sad:

I was coming into work this morning and pootling along at 'some' miles an hour when for a split second the revs dropped and I had no power.
Granted it came straight bk again but it's a little worrying!
