Hazard warning switch is definately on the steering column... I usually get cars that are strange in one way or another but this has baffled me since buying it.

i hate to be negative but there`s no way vw would have released a 90 spec car in 86, you might of seen prototypes a couple of years earlier in 88/89. so could it of been an import and the paperworks been misread/wrong.

I think Horney has already done a bit of investigating and it appears to still be a bit of a mystery, you say there's no way they VW would have realesed a 90 spec in 86 and normaly I'd agree but how do you explain this one then

To be honest I dont know what may have happened, VW said it may have been replated a couple of times as they couldnt find the plate on their system.

Could have been an import, but it is right hand drive, nothing what so ever to suggest it was ever left hand drive, no import papers or logs to say it was imported. I dont think it is a 'registered in 1990 car' but that everything about it suggests it is a 1990 car, everything looks original. Very very strange car but like I've said, whilst I've owned it ive not had any issues with it at all, to suggest that it is a dodgy car, VW cant figure it, no one I have shown it to can figure it. The more I think about it the more I want to keep it.

They are a car well ahead of their time in every respect and so well built... It hurts to think I have it up for sale.

No negativity picked up on, dont worry, any suggestions are gratefully received, I have always told people it is a 1986 car but 90 spec so im under no illusions

cars are still rhd in some countries , there were a lot of cars that were ordered/bought in rhd. from german/dutch dealer garages in the 90`s due to cars being a lot cheaper than over there at the time. also a lot of servicemen bought there cars while stationed in germany due to them being cheaper.

horney has just done a basic check with the dvla.
do you think if vw had an up and running 90 spec car in 86, they would release one for sale? but then not release them to mass production till 1990?

I dont know what to think mate, thats the whole point ! I'm not arugeing but as I said normaly I would agree with you but this one (at the moment at least) is a bit of a mystery
