I use to work as a loss assesor in the motor insurance industry and those photos and this thread are ringing (pardon the pun!) serious alarm bells!

Basically it comes down to one of 2 things.. Either

A) The car is a VERY good ringer.

B) A previous owner has gone to quite frankly ANAL lengths to convert it to 90 spec.

Incidentally the seats are from the run out edition circa 1991 and early 1992. I sincerely hope for your sake that it's the latter, but strongly recomend that you go over the car with a fine tooth comb to confirm it identity. Lastly shouldn't an 86 be mars red rather than tornado?

if its a ringer what are the chance of selling it?  surely the insurance company/s would struggle to ID it now?

If it is a ringer I suspect that it was done some considerable time ago and it would unlikely that its true identity could be confirmed. where that the leaves the current owner from a legal standpoint I'm not entirely sure.

My car has that interior and it isnt a run out edition so I think your mistaken.

Is your car a J reg ? If so then it's one the last made.

It is a J reg but it isnt a run out model, I thought the run out models had the rainbow interior ?

As far as i remember, the rainbow was predominantly a 16v thing. But you could always spec your seat fabric along with what wheels you wanted and paint colour etc. The all fabric seats (i.e. no vinyl on the sides and back) where only available from 1991 onwards.
