Quick Cam Timing Question
« on: 22 February 2008, 22:45 »
I'm currently doing my head gasket, and while doing so noticed that the two dots on my cams are slightly off centre at TDC i.e. one is perfect, the other is slightly off. Here's a pic:

In the haynes, these are exactly in line. The question is, am I being too picky, or is the timing slightly out??

that looks good to me

wind the cams either way and they will line up. I've had my 16v cams one tooth out and it was way more notiecable than that!

Have you removed any of the bearing caps?

the caps with 2 bolts on each that hold the cams down.

Those cams are aligned!

surely if you are changing the head gasket you'll have to redo the timing anyways?

if you turn them, one will go clockwise, the other clockwise... apposed to getting further apart they wll get closer.. youll find its probably a nats, if they were a tooth out it would be blindingly obvious
