The cog is specific to the speedo, not the box.

are you sure mate, i thought you can just whip the end of that fits into the gearbox and replace it with one that matches the gearbox, i think its something to do with the number of teeth & colour of the gear....

Nope i am in fact wrong!  :embarassed: Rubjonny did show me the error of my ways in the other thread.

Edit: After reading that I am still no wiser as to how to choose the correct gear though!

what you need is a Golf G60 or Corrado speedo cable, the MK2 one wont work at all :)
edit: apparently a MK2 1.3 speedo cable might work too?

moved over to mk3 subframe, so have been told that mk2 1.3 speedo cable will be too short as the lump/gearbox sits lower, do you know if the G60 is longer or even what colour its gear is?

just thought, G60 will be LHD so no good for you, you'll need a corrado gear!  it doesn't matter what colour the G60/rado gear is, they're all the same!
I got 2 cables listed for rado, one is 1100mm the other is 1360mm.  Both discontinued :(
RHD 1.3 cable is listed at 1200mm, and G60 is 1050mm

From GSF:
76142 SPEEDOMETER CABLE  G2 1.3 Manual 8/83 >7/92  11.75

Edit: From what I've been able to find out using a MK3 subframe makes no difference to how high the engine sits, no-one has been able to say for sure (with proof) if this is true one way or the other.

8v - 1720mm
16v - 1900mm

16v one is so long because it goes round the front of the inlet manifold, I've run mine along the bulkhead which should save alot of length when you come to fit it.

1400 and 1600 seat toledos using the '085' box have the same connections but are slightly longer than the 1300 cable!
