Cant believe you think an ED30 will look at an FQ300 0-60 4.8 secs, and it will do this every time. :grin:If your going by book speeds ED30 dsg 0-60 6.8. FQ300 4.8. maybe on the right conditions the ED30 will get around 6 secs but not very often.

Guys I think this is getting out of hand. There is no way that a golf gti ed 30 would keep up with an Evo. I have an honda integra type r with around 200 bhp (still voted best FWD handling car ever made) and my mate has an evo 9 FQ 320 and it absolutely thrashed my car.
I am contemplating changing my car this year and I do fancy an Golf GTi as I think it offers superior quality over any jap or french car. If I was to get an Edition 30 the first thing i would do is put a quaife diff in it as the integra has one and it handles like a dream especially in the wet. You won't look back after the LSD.

No idea where your getting your 0-60 times but they seem to be 1sec quicker than any reviews or official times i have seen. And the car certainly doesnt feel that quick.
If you have ever owned a 4wd sports car like an Evo or STi you would know that launching off the mark is stunning. Quotes like my friend has run many tests using his FQ260 and FQ300 are utter crap, if he had you wouldnt be making this shocking statements an fq300 will do 60mph in 4.5 secs!!!! IT WILL WALK AWAY WITH SHOCKING EASE and make you look very stupid indeed if you ever try it on with one in an ED30
This forum is amusing I think i shall stay clear as i dont want to be part of the ed30 the fastest car on earth brigade.
Accept the ED30 for what it is, a good all rounder, a good package, a well built hot hatchback.

Next somebody will tell me that the ED30 would give my FQ340 MR a run for its money......shocking stuff to read....power to weight ratios, please dont start talking about things you clearly have no idea about, without working it out I would still estimate the bhp per ton to be higher in a evo260 as yes it will be heavier but not much....next will be the 4wd transmission loss statement.

i've got an ed30 with bluefin, my dads got an fq 400 evo, you wouldn't believe how much faster and how much more grip and traction the evo has. an ed30 would never get near any evo off the mark. even anfq300 would murder a remapped ed 30 on acceleration, it would only be after about 60mph that an ed30 might hold station, so enough of this trying to make our ed 30 something they are not and enjoy them for what they are, the best hot hatch around imo.

Just caught up with this thread... very entertaining! I agree that you just can't get near to an EVO on launch! Only thing that annoys me with my GTI is getting bloody traction!

I've been lurking on the forum for a few weeks as I'm seriously considering an ED30 as my next car.  I find some of the statements on this site very amusing.  Comments like fully laiden Gti's beating M3's, Ed30 being as quick as C4S, FQ's, STI's etc etc.

I've had a couple of test drives in an Ed30 and it is a very accomplished hot hatch, but its simply not in the same league as the cars mentioned above.  I currently own a 2004 Civic Type-R, with similar book figures to an Ed30.  I would never compare my car to those above on a performance/handling basis.  I'm sure a remap would improve performance on an Ed30, but front wheel drive has its limitations and any sorted rear wheel drive or four wheel drive car with more power like those listed above will be quicker in all situations!

maybe from stand still.
From rolling start, I wonder.

Wolfbane got away from Evo with 305hp, he said. Also, his friend with 305hp E30 got away from that same Evo. That was NOT from stand still.

This is getting silly now. Your quoting modified ED30 versus standard EVO, your not even quoting which EVO model, i can only assume it wasnt an FQ model, if it was thats utter rubbish. I have driven a 300bhp ST and there is no way on the planet it would beat any EVO FQ in any situation.
Comparing modified cars to un-modified cars is pointless.
Just for the record I am not saying the EVO is or isnt a better car than the ED30.  The ED30 is without doubt a more rounded car and thats why its won in my shoot out and will be buying one, but please please please dont start talking about taking on EVO's or Scoobies unless you can be more specific about the model...
not FQ. Evo was souped up, too. And it was a rolling battle. Of the mark any car with similar or even less power than E30 but with 4x4 would beat E30, in my opinion. Hurdy will probably disagree (S3 was not faster than his E30 DSG).
Of course E30 is no match for proper Evo, that's obvious! But then, they are totally diferent animals.
Anyway

E30 goes well, but only from the 3rd gear. Before that I get flustered, traction is clearly lacking.
I know that my next whip will be 4x4.

How an earth do you know it was 'souped' up as you put it, you dont know do you, I am sure you will now tell me you spoke to the EVO driver!!!! But forgot to mention it before, if you did you would know exactly how much power the ' souped up' EVO was pushing because the driver would have told you. Sorry I have to say it but your full of sh!t......And like I stated you are comparing modded ed30 to a standard car....

I am not posting anymore as clearly there are a fair few misguided, naive and very ignorant members on this forum and dont know why I am wasting my time trying to educate those who clearly have no idea...
