Thanks for that as it could be an option and with the same engine as the ed30 moding the car to 300bhp should be available via just a chip?

Yup. Anywhere from 300bhp to a claimed 330bhp depending which one you choose. There are less drivetrain losses and weight than a four wheel drive, so after initial take off, there is less drag to slow it down.

I have been a busy man, testing all my options and I was swinging back towards the ED30 until Saturday when the prick salesman decided to floor the ED30 in an attempt to catch an ST. What a fool he made out of himself.  I know both cars have the same performance figures but this man couldn't drive to save his life. Idiot he nearly lost control and I nearly dragged him out of the car and beat his head against the tarmac!!!
Anyhow once we changed seats I thought he has just scared the living daylights out of me I will now do the same   He went very pale indeed and I was very impressed by the handling, normally I am very conservative when test driving in company.....Looks like I may be joining you guys but will need a remap as the ST didn't half destroy him (may have had a remap, who knows). Offered me a bleedin good price for my Evo, dont ask!!!!

ED30 role on....I am 95% convinced!!!

Good to see you had an exhuberant test drive

Did the test drive change your mind about getting the Renault?

Renault lent me the F1 for a couple of hours, now whilst a great handling car I decided it was still a little rough around the edges for what I want. I want a sensible hatchback that is fairly normal and comfy around town, the F1 isnt that a little noisy and a llike a pit bull on a short lead, angry even.
The ST is very tempting but Ford are £2000 under VW part exchange value for my car!!!!VW have even said they will throw in 3 services, so all in all a good deal. I think the sales manager fancies having my Evo to play with for a few hours, he will have a shock as I remember when i approached them he was saying that the ED30 would keep up with Scoobies and Evos...!!!!

I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you drive a ed30 that’s fully run in, Mine took about 6K, and it really is so much faster! It feels like someone flicked a switch at 6k and doubled the toque!

My std ed30 has kept up with loads of so called more “powerful” cars, including a few Scoobies and Evos!

Without wanting to stir up you members as I will soon be one. You may keep up with a WRX, never a WRX STi but even a EVO 260 would walk away if the drivers are the same standard. As for any EVO FQ, I am sorry not a chance in any situation...end of....(we are talking std v std)

I have to agree with that. Standard v's standard there is no contest and the same would apply in modified v's modified.
In the wet the 4WD ricers would walk away all the time. For me, it isn't about that though, I want an all round car and the ED30 is that car, add DSG and a 4WD manual WRX/EVO 260 would struggle to keep up. Add a remap to a DSG car and it is anyone's guess what the outcome would be even against the more powerful EVO's and STi (standard of course ):undecided:

Hurdy i agree, totally different cars and thats why i fancy a hot hatch, more usable day to day and we are getting the Lotus :smug:
But theres always somebody who is either far to brand loyal and blinkered. Quotes like ive kept up with EVO's and Scoobies really let down the rest of the members IMO. The bottom line is if the poster did, the EVO driver wasn't trying, end of.  You would have to change a hell of a lot on an ED30 to get it anywhere near a standard EVO FQ to be honest even with some serious mods it would struggle to even get close.  As for a EVO260 struggling to keep up with a standard ED30 with DSG, no way.  The EVO260 would easily beat the DSG ED30 off the lights and would maintain a healthy lead. And I dont think whatever mods you put on an ED30 (maybe if you installed 4wd!!!!) it would ever make 0-60 in less than 5.5secs and that would only be achievable in optimum conditions.
The ED30 along with other hot hatches is a good all rounder, better at doing the day to day things along with comfy mway driving and good for a blast.
What it isnt and never will be is an EVO FQ rival...... different market...

I am going to get an ED30 but I am realistic about my expectations of the car

Chavan's right i had an FQ300 and it would destroy a modded golf in all area's,on any road and was rapid whatever the weather through at it. The only downside was 12mpg.
But i've said it before as a package the gti's the better all round car.
