Which petrol do you use?

Have been using 95RON since I bought me GTI 3 months ago  Should I be using super unleaded?  What does everyone else use and what difference does it make?

Yes, super unleaded pal. The manual states this too. The Fsi engine is designed to run on higher octane fuel and doesn't acheive its best performance or economy on the lower grade stuff. Something to do the stratified mode of the engine or something, it can only do this on the higher octane stuff, did read all about it a while ago but I've slept since then and can't remember all the details.
Personally I've found shell v-power the best all round giving a much crisper responsive engine, although got caught short and had to put some Tesco 99/100 in and this was pretty good to

I used to use Sainsburys ultimate stuff... but found the Tesco good stuff alot better. Ironic really as Im not a fan of tescos and their exploitation.. but i would do anything for my baby!!! So the tesco good stuff it is!! :nerd:

If you look inside the cover of the fuel cap where the tyre pressure chart is there is also an advice label for fuel type.
well there is on my ed30.
I use Shell V-power, and get double points on my drivers card this month, to dull the pain of over priced fuel :sick:

There's been quite a few tests done on super unleaded petrol and the two best always seem to be Shell V-Power & Tesco 99

I think both are now 99 RON

the GTi manual recommends 98 RON ... so either of the above are fine

Other tips are :-

Petrol goes "off" over time, so best use a popular busy petrol station ! (one test found Tesco 99 best for consistency on this score)

It is also slightly more dense when cold....so fill up on when it's cold - early mornings !!

what is best for r32?

also my mpg rarely goes above 20mpg which is strange right?

Im not sure but like i said i use the tesco 99 stuff which i hear comes from the BP refinery. I have to admit that i rarely get over 20mpg either.. have been driving my dads car for like a week now and have been cruising around slowly.. but the minute im back in the R its like I turn into a loon!! You just cant drive this thing slow! :evil:

Tesco 99 all the way. V Power is too expensive and our Tescos frequently do a 5p off a litre when you spend £50 in store.

R32 isn't FSI - so normal 95 RON is fine.

However my dealer said he runs all his golfs on 95 RON and never had any problems - however I have been using Shell V Power.

Found the car "livelier" than with BP Ultimate (97 RON).
