.....

But, Hurdy, would you crack open yer DSG before warranty is up?

No,yes,no,yes.no.yes

Oh bugg3r!  after a year or two then yes

Ditto... it will probably be the last mod I get round to doing although I don;t think I can't wait for the 3 years to be up until I try... I will wait and see what happens to guinea pigs  - sorry I mean respected forum members    - like Red Robin and see what they report back.  Also there might be developments along this line - i.e. a cheaper way to uprate the DSG box to handle more torque than just 350nm because its 300nm as standard and a remap will only give you 50nm extra as opposed to 110+ nm on a manual.

....This "respected forum member" isn't necessarily going to do it - I've got plenty of time to decide.

Most of the established good tuners remap to a limit of about 400 Nm / 300 ft lb on the DSG box on the GTI (not Ed30 version).

Now I am really confused... I have read countless threads in other forums that say the DSG is limited to 350nm and this is why Oettinger also limit their remap to 350nm?  I have also read that the DSG software prevents more than 350nm going through the box...  :undecided:

DSG does limit the torque to 350nm...but only in first and second.

Really - that is sensible in a FWD car!  And after that?

....My Revo Stage1 showed close to 300 ft lb (406 Nm) on the rolling road. I've had conversations with Revo and other tuners before I remapped because I was particularly concerned about how DSG would be - I researched this aspect over several months and waited until I was satisfied before remapping. During that 'research' I learnt that VW build-in approx +40% 'headroom' tolerance to their engineering on their official figures. So, if VW say 300, there's actually about 420 in the envelope.

Everytime I've done a mod, I've checked that torque isn't over increased to a level I don't feel comfortable with for longevity. I had the DSG Mechatronics Unit fail but way before I remapped. A remap transforms the GTI. With the same driver in each car I would say that my modded GTI has faster performance than both a stock Ed30 and a stock R32 but it's not all about being faster but having your own car as you prefer it as a ride.

I'm not alone in reporting that the DSG shifts feel smoother since a remap - Except when cold start.

In all the lists of differences I've so far read about Ed30 internals, I haven't come across anything yet suggesting that the DSG box is any different on any of the Mk5's.

The Ford Focus RS has a Quaife ATB and the Renault rival to the GTI has one too - All reports are glowing!

I thoght that clarckson loved the RS on the track, but hated it i=on real world roads, due mainly to the LSD.

You are right. He didn't like the agressiveness of the LSD in conjunction with the power delivery of the turbo

No boost, no boost, no boost, no boost, ohhhhh shiiiiiiiiiiit

.... Since when has any LSD been "aggressive"? They usually smooth the drivetrain. Someone I know who has driven the RS says the Quaife ATB is "awesome".

I assume you mean the Ford's turbo delivers undesirably?
