2.0 induction kit
« on: 12 March 2004, 23:48 »
I'm starting to hear conflicting stories regarding  induction kits - a la -  they dont have gains for every car, that they are mostly there for the sound and not every car benefits (in HP) from more (cold) air.

I'm looking to put an ABD Big Bore intake tube to a q-flow kit (w/ a K&N filter) on my 2.0 8v

The question here is, am I just throwing my money away?  The point is to be faster, save gas and not sacrifice reliability.

The sound of my car doesnt impress me (it's still a 4 banger), nothing is sillier than an 'all hype' car getting blown away by noone special.  What will impress me is when I've got pull away power from some poser honda -  who cares if it doesn't 'sound' sporty then.

Induction kit will work, i recommend K&N.
Induction kit combined with sports exhaust will give you about 10% extra BHP.

All righty then..

I think I'll treat myself to it as a reward for finishing the soundproofing the b!tch. (oops, I'm sorry.. My b!tch)  Unless someone's got a better idea.

As they always say, it's got to get worse before it can get better...

ive just fitted my K&N 57i today ... and the results are in: -

0-30mph = no difference
30-45mph = roaring noise begins
45-70mph = better acceleration (just) than before... more responce.

aint been over 70mph yet ...

Induction kits will NOT gain you on a standard 8.v 2.0 litre. If its performance you want this is poitnless.

Purely for noise.

I think for most of the mk3's the K&N will LOSE you a few bhp as it does not have a plastic airbox stopping hot air from the seating engine into it. Infact the K&N sits Closer to the hot air then as standard.

It slightly improves throttle response but not by much. It really is only for the noise.

Though you say you want performance, You really have the wrong engine. The fastest mk3 8v 2.0 I know of with/out forced induction is a guy of club gti who is running at 135 bhp. And that was cams zorst de cat, ported and polished ecu, all in costing well over a grand and a half at least!

Thats another 20 bhp.

Totally pointless. You cannot make a 2.0 8v produce decent bhp.

I have a 2.0 8v btw. With k&n. i like the noise.

I agree that it won't do a lot for an 8v, but to say you will lose power is bollox.
The induction kit sits right in the wing and will not draw in hot air.
The k&n is VERY good on the vr6.
Do you write on Clubgti?
