erm, i saw a webpage yesterday that had a mk3 8v GTI with 175Bhp

When I re-find the page I'll post the link.

i think 115 - 175 is a nice jump for a NONE turbo car.

Well to be honest, from owning the car and modding mine I would tend to think that figure is complete bollocks NA / w/o NOS.

And even if it was true, you would be spending thousands!

It's the wrong engine to make big bhp plain and simple.

Yes i post on club gti as Joe,Gti

Blimey its great!!

I had the K&N put on today, it rocks!

.....yeah it sounds great, a brilliant roar, but its the free reving delivery of power thats f'ing brilliant.

Well worth the bang for the buck I say.

If youve got a 16v or VR, get one!!

........and theres no loss of power as a lady once said.

 ;)

I dont care what it did to your car, everycar is different... even if they have the same engine and same chassis etc. I drove this car for 12month without a K&N and now it's had the K&N on for 3days and I noticed the difference straight away once I hit 40-50mph.

Oh and I've also noticed summet else since.

I was pottering around on my drive, parking it up and I noticed how unbelievably smooth it is ... not jerky-ness at all anymore ... no vibrations or nothing when ya slowly moving around... fantastic... even my brother who is adament that inductions kits (ON ANY CAR) are pointless, admitted that it was smoother.

anywayz...

I said earlier I drove two V6 mk4's and both drove totally different... one was insanely fast and the other was rather poor and slow.

All depends on how they were run in, and this goes for all cars.

Theres an old man down the road from me, hes got a T reg Polo 1.4 and it has 4000 miles on the clock (he only drives around town, and its a small town) ... i'll feel sorry for the next person to own it, cos it'll be the slowest 1.4 T reg Polo ever to exist.

What about swapping heads w/ a 16v (from a junkie, putting new cams in)? Is the intake and plenum the same.  Is it the same block?

Overseer - my insurance went up by ?30, I'm 31 BTW so insurance isnt an issue anymore.

I say get one now, but if you'd prefer a long term report, then ask me in a few weeks.

 :)

.........it seems to really suit the 16v so far.

There he goes, spouting b*ll*cks again!

Omar - would be very interested to know how you get on with the K&N. Is the noise intusive? A friend of mine has one on 1.4 Astra and it's bl00dy loud, but gets annoying after a while. I've never bothered with induction kits before as I've always thought they weren't really worth it.

Would changing the original panel filter for a performance one like a K&N be worth it? Anyone done this? Guess you wouldn't have to tell the insurance about that either as it's just replacing the panel filter?
