Rockford fosgate are good, you should deffo look into one of their packages

id stay well away from cheeper brands as they, at best sound bad and wooly.

As with most things...what u pay for is what u get

you didnt say what size sub you want either?

amp

but if your budget needs to include wiring and box then maybe look at something like this

or

and i would disagree with kells *As with most things...what u pay for is what u get*

budget kit has come a long way in the past few years and its more about how its installed than how much the kit has cost;)

a lot of it depends on what you want as idealy you would design/build your own sub box to suit your sub,car and music tastes as prefab boxes never do the subs justice :( even vibe boxes are tuned way too high just to make them sound louder and you miss out on the proper low bass because of it.

really depends what you want but a 10" sub would provide enough bass to overpower your std speakers.

main reason i recommended 10`s was they tend to be slightly cheaper :)

its more about setting headunit and amp up properly and have a play with positoining the sub to see what sounds best.

cheep gear sounds cheep, sorry but it does, when u compair to something like, say, a rockford (which can be had for good money nowdays) or better still a Focal, you really understand why i say it..

i had a 10inch rockford in my mk 3, just swapped it for my new 10inch Focal, same head unit, amp etc, and the sound quality is just a total transformation, and the bloody rockford was very good....better than most iv heard.

the focal is like £350 retail where as the rockford is about half that...

hence why i say, what u pay is what u get.....

but each to their own, if you think budget gear is good enough for you then fair play, but you are missing out

agreed

save your pennies - perhaps pop in decent speakers instead of a budget sub and amp... you'll get more quality for your initial investment

Agreed with the point of what your saying about quality Ice. But Im currently undergoing two installs. I have a Monster JL Audio install going into my caddy. The 4 13W6 subs are £500 each on there own. But I also have a monster MAC audio system going into my Mk1 Jetta when my engine work is complete. My 4 12" mac audio subs are incredible value for money and cost less than one of my JL subs.

Its best to hear a few different systems and see what you like. Personally I would stay away from Fusion,Mutant and anything Ripspeed.
If your in the Reading/Berkshire area I can give you the number of a mate of mine who owns an Ice shop. He can sort out some really good deals
To much going on to list all the work

im not running budget kit but that is only cos i compete if i just wanted an everyday system i would prob spend half my budget on kit and half on installation.

i have heard very high end kit sound sound very average cos of installation yet i have also heard budget kit from the likes of fusion sound extremely impressive for the price.

yes good kit if installed properly will sound better but if your on a tight budget why blow it all on 1 good part and be let down by the rest of the system?

It is ABSOLUTELY the case that installation and setup is the key.

If you have even half-decent sound up front, the addition of even budget sub-bass can make a system sound so much bigger.  It will even improve the sound quality up front, as you won't be having to boost your bass any more - resulting in clearer midrange from the front.

You definitely don't have to go mad either.  I currently run a JBL GT4 12", powered from a JBL 75.2, in a standard JBL ported enclosure.  Sound quality is good, it integrates well with my front end, and does not sound at all wooly.  They are obscenely cheap now.

That kit contains everything you'd need, and being a sealed box, would also sound a little more musical.  In terms of value for money, you'd be hard pushed to find anything better value.  Provided you set up the amp properly, you wouldn't be disappointed.
