yeah buy a single light grille and unplug the centre lights ... its that wasy

sweet thanks :D i prefer the look of singles :)

keep the twin lights mate. Personally I reckon that's what makes them look so sexy from the front.

Personal preference though obviously so do your thing :)

As everyone else here has said, £300 with tax and ticket - already on to a winner.  I've just spent £1800 on my 8v gti, it's in good nick, but I'm still in the mood for spending as much as I can on it (and the bank have just approved a new credit card with a 3.5k limit on it - oh dear!!)..... I imagine you'll be the same, they're a very lovable car.

Happy driving.

b4

I dont want to spend too much on this one as after ive gotten some NCB i wana get an 8v gti and become a real member of the forum  (not a wanabe )

Cheers guys my dads got all the details for me now and hes giving the person a ring 2moz ( thought he was gonna today)

My dads gonna have a look tomorrow and arange a day/time for me to go and have a look with the cash if my dad thinks its ok.

so excited  :embarassed:

drivers have a problem with the carb when there old it doesnt run rite whatever you do and a new weber conversion is a couple of hundred quid, a cheap way to make it faster is to put an 8v gti cam in it, and a stainless exhaust

things to check:

when you get there see if its been started, if it has let it cool down before you start it (one of my mates nearly got ripped off because he viewed a car what had been warmed up, turned up unexpected to buy it, seller fired it up, rattly as fook...)

start it up and make sure its not smoking and no rattles, knocks pings etc

check under arches and sills for major rust spots

check mot notice for advisory's, have a look at tyres, also see how dirty the oil filter is, spark plugs, oil itself etc give yaself a vague idea when it last had a service :nerd:

also if its got the plastic arch covers check behind them, my driver wasnt meant to have em standard, had a look behind one, no arch left just rust

hope this helps

sam

Not got a golf yet! did have a 1.6 driver plan to have another project car soon ;)

Cheers guys im not actually seeing it tomorrow but my dad is (its a high security place they work  so no getting in for me) but my dad is an ex. mechanic and re-builds motorbikes all the time so he knows what general stuff to look for. If he gives it the OK, when i go and look/buy it (hopefully sunday) then ill make sure the said things are ok. Ill ask the bloke if its had a carb at all aswell

how easy is it to pull dents out? (not sure where they are yet my dad has only given me the basics so far and even if i only have it for a year it should do.

My dad doesnt think its worth spending any money on but i want to get a few bits and pieces (de-badged grill and smoked lights) but as theyre only small bits from ebay i might just do it anyway.

How often does the cambelt need changing?

How much is a new battery likely to be?

really considering it tbh, 1st car isnt everything :\

The guy is driving somewhere in it tomorrow and has told my dad to ring him to arrange me to go and see it when he's on his way back so could get it tomorrow
