For £300 its always worth a punt!

With it looking tatty your main concern is rust on any structural parts i would reckon but with 12 months MOT you'll be fine till then!

Any dodgy mechanical stuff is easy enough to sort on a golf and a good tool to learn on but rust involves cutting and welding bits and if like me you can't do it yourself, often costs an arm and leg in labour charges.

Get 12" wheels and drop it to the deck!

the worst cosmetic rust is around the fuel filler cap. Not an MOT failure as the fuel tank is all plastic including the fiiller but the surround can rot away and not pretty.
Golf MK2 drivers imho are a fantastic car for a first time driver and a great way into a MK2. owned one from 80k to 160K best car I ever owned. Still sell the odd J and H plater and they are still solid as a rock

£300 tax and 12 months test cant go far wrong

the fact it still has the original steels is a good sign to it being original easily changed though :-) Just watch the mods and let the insurance company know.

re the pas if you get the tracking and camber checked and the tyre pressures correct wont be as heavy as you think.

cheap first car and so easy to repair when they go wrong and with this forum never short of help

good luck with your viewing

So i just got back from seeing it  looks pretty tatty but with a good clean, bit of touch up paint to a few minor scratches and such it wont be too bad. The interior is tidy and not ripped.

The radio does not have an arial (who listens to radio at 17 anyways xD) so a replacement with cd + line in is required (to me anyway).

im gonna go with it, give it a tidy up and use if for the time being. Everything worked on it (wipers, lights etc...) needs an oil change though.

Is there a way to sort out the boot? I didnt like the way that the spare sticks up

Also how does the car have full beam after i take out the inner lights? I really dont like them tbh. Do the outer lights also brighten on full beam eliminating my worry?

The guy said to think about it and my dad will talk to him at work but im gonna get it  likely to go pick it up within a week, whenever the guy is available.

Cheers

My 89' 8V has a space saver spare with a jack that sits in the middle of that. It still sticks up a bit in the boot but its not a big bulge  Its never really bothered me.

Yup, the outer lights are dual filament bulbs so change between dipped and main beam. The inner lights also come on with the main beam. Personally, I like the look of four headlamps and on a dark rainy unlit road, its got to be better with them on!

only coz i wana put a sub in the boot  but might not be a problem :\

I like the four lights but cant decide between a 2 light debadged grill or 4 light eyebrow spoiler :\ dont like the 4 light debadged grills much.

Also not a big deal but the black bits on the bumpers are abit faded is there a way to restore them abit? I know a guy who would be able to help but hes not about for a little while :(

Thanks

re the bumpers use black shoe polish,

the hump in the boot annoyed me too on my driver just look out for a gti boot carpet and a 14 inch space saver same fitment and then a nice flat boot

looks good mate!

personally i like the 4 lamp grilles but everyone has different tastes ... on my car i have had pretty much every grille going but always go back to the 4 lamp with vw badge :D

like has been said already the spare wheel in the boot really annoyed my aswell ... there was no room in the boot for my sub so i got a 14" space saver wheel and GTI boot carpet and now the sub fits nicely

she just needs a good slamming
