ABF into MK2 16V........................
« on: 12 October 2007, 18:39 »
Hi Guys,

I'm gonna take the plunge this weekend and see how i get on with doing the ABF conversion......so this could turn into a long thread .

I've got a question for you lads that have done it , and also moved to the cable change gearbox....as I've got the whole mk3 here sitting on my drive ready to cannabalise, can i move the pedal box from the mk3 straight to the mk2 to allow me to use the cable change gearbox?

cheers

yep read that one mate, the geezer seems to have taken an ABf and plonked it straight to mk2 subframe, i've heard that if you take the mk3 subframe over aswell the engine sits a little lower and doesnt end up smacking the bonnet when you nail the throttle

do you know if i take the mk3 subframe across will, my mk2 wish bones attach up as normal? the mk3 has power steering aswell that i'd like to take across , will i need to change the steering rods to mk2 power assisted rods (I currently have non-power assisted rack).

sorry for all the questions chaps

http://www.clubgti.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=141511&highlight=subframe

i guess the only thing i need to know is if i can carry the power steering rack over from the mk3.

well i think i answered my last question on this thread.

http://www.clubgti.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=142224&highlight=power+steering.

I hope you guys dont mind , i might just put the answeres to questions from various sites in this one thread as i come across, as someone is bound to ask them again, and as i'm finding out there isnt one thread that answers everything.

cheers

I was thinking of doing this to mine.

I can see what you mean about the mk3 subframe. Your going to take the engines out anyway so why not just trial fit them up and see what the clearance is like?

Ive read that a corrado subframe lets the engine sit lower.

well both engines are out and in the garage, i was planning on just doing a straight fit, but now there out i'm starting to think of loads of things, and hopefully you guys can answer my questions.

As i've got both engines side by side , other than the parts  i need to get the abf going in the mk2 what else is worth taking over from the KR? i've read many differnt posts on cam's which i'll admit I dont entirely understand  , but is it worth mixing and matching ABF /KR cams?

As i need to take the KR injector rail over (i'll be running k-jet), i'd like to upgrade the injectors as mine have done well over 200K ,whats the next step up in terms of injectors to make sure i'm giving the new engine adequate fuel? I'm sure i saw a post many moons ago on peeps buying these injectors http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MERCEDES-BOSCH-INJECTOR-201-124-126-107-129-123-460-1_W0QQitemZ200127679041QQihZ010QQcategoryZ10398QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem , and tweaking them slightly to fit, anybody done this?

I'm also thinking wide track as i'll be using the mk3 subframe, will the mk3 drive shafts slot into the mk2 hubs?

sorry for all the questions , i'll stop soon

Get your Injectors Ultrasonically cleaned! about 18 quid a shot with new rubbers and seals Injectors come in at over £40 each new! Ouch! Yup I have been reaserching this ABF 9a conversion for my self and fitting the KR inlet cam should be worth about 10 bhp which is free as you have the cams and it is supposed to sharpen the throttle response the you K jet will need tweaking which Im lead to belive stealth racing Know all about, Also dude I f you are gonna widen your front track you are gonna have to lob on the rear axle too!!! Otherwise your cars gonna look funny!

K-Jet is my friend!

Hi All,

Have got a qeuestion on the oil cooler. Toyotec in the below thread says: remove  "oil cooler but not oil cooler housing" ( its about a 1/4 of the way down page one in between the pics)

http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=97434

which part is it in the pic?

also is it worth removing the part that isnt numbered i put a rectangular box round it, i think its a breather & cleaning it?

cheers
