anyone know what tyres i will get on my new ED30, the demo had Bridgestone potenza's, seem to be whats at hand on the production line.

It's a bit of a sweepstake. I've noticed about four different types of tyres :undecided:. I agree with what you say in the fact it must simply be what they have at lineside on the shop floor at the time they are due to put the boots on.

Losers in the lottery get Dunlop's

Loser here - I got those - Sport Maxx :embarassed:

Have to say that I haven't had any problem with them though in either wet or dry but they have been quite noisy since about 1k miles (currerntly 6k). car is in for service in a couple of weeks and I have asked the dealer to comment on them.

Ouch....Sorry about that Cass. What do you mean by noisy? Squealing on corners and road rumble on rough surfaces? :undecided:

I think that your choice will be either:

Continental Sport Contact 2. A hard riding middle of the road affair but with good wear rates.

Michelin pilot Exalto. Not as good as a Pilot Sport but a very resonable all rounder.

Bridgestone Potenza (RE050A I think). Another fine all rounder but not tops.

Dunlop Sport Maxx. Not sexy or sporty but unless you're on your door handles they're fine.

My dealer offered a choice of all four tyre brands and said that he would have tyres taken off of showroom cars to fit on my own car. I offered to pay for this service but they said it would be complimentary.

A very nice offer and not too much difficulty for the dealership.

Why not ask you dealer, they can only say no.

Interesting stuff... the GTI I'm picking up on Friday has Dunlop SP Sport 01A's - anyone know how they differ to the Sport Maxxs?

Mind you, there's two virtually new ones on the front, and they're about to add two new ones (which, no doubt, will also be SP Sport 01A's) at the back so, unless I want to bin 2 near-new ones and change (e.g. to Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's), I don't think I have any option do I..?

cheers

Oh, I didn't know your car was used!

If it is then personally I would ask for the new tyres to be put on the front, other peoples views on this may differ.

The Dunlop's may well be the OE spec (I did say I'm not sure about the OE Dunlop's exact spec).

The Golf GTI is a middling fast hatchback and therefore is supplied as original equipment on fine 'all round sporting' tyres (which is fair enough), if your car is on Dunlops SP's then I wouldn't be worried.

We all like to think that we're a 'hand' at the wheel and we'll notice minute differences in chassis attitude according the chosen tyres but in reality we're more 'hand jobs' at the wheel and wouldn't differentiate block flex and progressive slip angles from a range of tyres if they were served to us for dinner.

Enjoy your car and the Dunlop's it sits on, in my humble opinion you've made a fine choice.

I find the Dunlops fine, if the others are better, then the ed30 must be even better!
