Pattern Parts - not patent!
« on: 08 September 2007, 23:32 »
I'm just about to order a load of bits to get the old girl ready for the mot, are the pattern parts alright for dubs from say a local motor factor or am i best getting them from genuine??

Going for things like:

CV Gaitors
Bushes
Dissy cap
Rotor arm
Cam belt kit
Water pump
Plugs and leads

Going to do the discs and pads too but they seem to be about £30 and i think i could get some performance ones for similar money.

Any help appreciated.
Dave

CV I'd always go OEM
Bushes tend to be better when uprated anyway, so Powerflex
Dizzy and Rotor arm - dunno, I haven't had to replace it *fingers crossed*
Cam belt - I would always spend the extra few bob and go OEM as I think the MK2 is an interference engine, and I know where I rather be spending my money.
Water pump - apparently the GSF one is quite good, but I haven't had first hand experience
Plugs and leads - cheap and cheerfuls, they are disposable-ish anyway

Thats pretty cool, thanks.

The Cv's shouldnt be that expencive anyway, they were £1.50 ish from the motor factors place.
I know what you mean about the powerflex bushes, and eventually thats what i expect it'll get, but its a track day car that needs to be kept on a pretty tight budget so as not to annoy the missus too much....so the cheap ones for now to get it through an mot i think will have to be the order of the day.

The dissy and rotor arm, i'll go for the factor ones too then as they are cheap enough, not sure if they need replacing tbh but the whole engine and car has been stood for a few years with no much happening, so it can't hurt to change em can it??

The water pump was prob going to be done after the rest since its not integral to the cam belt system i beleive, and plugs and leads may get upgraded eventually, but they're not the number one priority.

Any idea on discs??

dude, if its a track car, then why skimp on a cheap important handling mod? extra $$$ spent now will save money in the future!

Yeah this is true and i know exactly what your saying, any idea how much they are for the kit then??

Its just theres a quite a lot to pay out for at the moment as the list keeps on bloody growing at the moment....
Need suspension for it too, and a set of tyres ideally.

Thats pretty good actually, i need to ring them about brakes so will ask about them too.

On their website they list the discs but are they individual or for a pair??

oem all the way for me.  a lot of the gsf pattern parts are pretty poor imo.
