There is a mac driving course you can do with ex police dirvers who show you the limits safely on the road. So much better than an airfield! Want to get it done if i am going to the nurburg next year i will do it before. It was free when you bought a ctr but they stopped doing it last year
Im going to drive an elise, wrx, ferrari f355 and 911 on friday on an airfield (present last minute.com) Will see if they let me have a quick blast on it with mine (highly highly doubtful tho lol  )

I think it comes down to preferences, the gti is a lazier older persons hothatch with subtle styling and low revving high torque engine. Ctr is for younger people who enjoy putting their foot down using the revs, with in your face styling. Both fantastic cars with good and bad points.

....Here's one 60yo who doesn't totally agree with you.

Its price tag alone puts it in a catogory out of most peoples reach i.e. older business men and woman.

....True. I don't mind growing old, just as long as I don't have to grow up.

Why? Other than a few comparisons there isnt realy a 'my car is better than yours' thing going on! I love both cars, most on here prefer the golf but havnt said they hated the ctr which is fair enough and what i would expect.
I think the forum and most people are very good on here. Alot better than most, where as soon as i had come on with a different car i would have been flamed!!

Just to add my experience.

CTR = Raw, loud and feels like you're going 1,000,000 miles an hour. It's a great car to go out and have fun in
Gti = Refined, doesn't feel as fast BUT you could easily lose your license as you do not realise just how quick you are going! It's a car that you can live with AND have fun in.

In a perfect world i would own both. A ctr for the short fun runs and a gti for the motorways and general driving. That way i could grin all the time

....But if you remap and also mod suspension, brakes, etc etc, wouldn't you only need the GTI? - It's a great allrounder.

Check out JKM at Portsmouth - Small family biz and highly thought of by Revo.

You can do the same to the ctr. Brembos, lsd and a fast road setup will see of nearly everything on a corner! But yes you could do that to the gti mate!
