an 800w to a 1000w amp would do the job, im runnin 2 12" subs which are 800 w each and they sound fantastic. i got a sony explode 1000w amp for around £200. get a good wiring kit, spend about 30 to 50 quid on them cause they make all the difference and run your power cable down one side of the car and the resr down the other to avoid distortion. hope this helps.

Better off telling us what make/model the sub is really - those power figures don't mean a great deal in reality.

Also depends upon how you'll be running the sub - sealed subs can take a fair whack more power to get them going.  I've had my "1000w" GT4 (ported) singing well from a genuine 140w RMS.

ah, old school jensen amps, lovely!

I suspect the sub to be about 350-400wrms.

so any amp about that value should be good for it. JBL are always a safe bet, or fusion.

I looked at the back of the sub and it says:

Frequncy response: 18Hz - 2000Hz

Rated power: 350W

Impedance: 4 Ohms

Peak Power: 1200W

Here's more info after a web search:

http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.action?product=XS-L121P5S&site=odw_en_GB&pageType=TechnicalSpecs&imageType=Main&category=ICA+Subwoofers#tab

So should i be looking for an amp thats rated 350W? What else should i want from the amp?

Why not just try the Jensen with 2 channels bridged?  You've got nothing to lose - might be 200w RMS if you're lucky, and should get the old X-plop moving.

The jensen amp was sold seperately.
