Save or Scrap! 5 Door 8 Valve
« on: 13 June 2007, 17:23 »
 :undecided:

So it went for its MOT today and 18 things wrong later:

Both rear lamps rear position lamps adversely affected by the operation of another lamp (?)

Nearside rear brake caliper braking system leaking (it needs tighting up)

Nearside front brake pipe on inner wing braking system leaking

Brake Hydraulic reserviour fluid level below minimum level (should of checked)

Exhaust system noise is clearly in excess of that emitted by a similar vehicle fitted with a standard silencer in average condition (hey ho)

Nearside rear exhaust system mounting missing (i gather thats a rubber then)

Nearside rear wheel bearig feels rough when rotated (wheel bearing knackered)

Nearside inner rear brake hose ferrule excessively corroded

Nearside rear brake cable tyre fouling a part of the vehicle (pipe rubs tyre)

Both front wishbone rear bushes suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement

Offside front anti-roll bar linkage rubber mounting deteriorated resulting in excessive movement

Nearside outer front, bush missing, anti-roll bar linkage has excessive play in a pin/bush

Offside macpherson strut upper support bearing is rough in operation (new dampers and coils fitted under 6months ago)

both rear axle bushes trailing arm rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement

Parking brake efficiency below requirements (9%)

Advisory Item

Steering system has slight free play detected at steering wheel

No rear seats fitted

Front grill adrift (?)

So, what cost would that be?

Worth keeping or scrap and buy another?

You know you want to, you dont realise it yet!

seems a bit heavy handed on some of the fails, but if it's a clean car with bits done, it's worth doing, if it's just your average run of the mill 5dr, use it as an excuse to buy a 3dr....

Does seem heavy handed (after i had just done a really nice job waxing his car) but new calipers all round, new discs, pads, handbrake cables, dampers, coils, full service (4 months ago) in fact over £1,000 spent in the last 12 months, but if it costs more to fix than buy another.........................

Sounds mainly like consumable parts... get it fixed

I don't think a semi will give the same results

I'd fix it. Unless it's atlas grey, in which case I'll have it.

Fix it! I had similar probs with mine on last MOT (Bushes, calipers, steering stuff) It was quite a lot really and cost £300 quid. Money well spent i say as it drives a hell of a lot better. You wont get another car for that money and some one is only going to offer you a few quid with no MOT.
