If I thought I could get away with mounting my tweeters in the a pillars, I'd definitely have a go, but it looks like more trouble than it's worth!

When I was experimenting with locations, it did sound good with the tweets blu-tacked to the base of the a pillars, but the mirror backings aren't that far away.  It's a shame that the trims aren't a little deeper, otherwise I'd try flush mounting.  I've got some JBL tweets in there at the moment, but I may be upgrading soon, so I'll wait until everything is finished, then get some pics up.

AZIM, I take it you have the relavent active crossovers if you're going for a 3-way front end?  I'm having enough trouble with 2-way!

the pillar design in the thread i posted could be modded so they didn't sink behind the pillars as much as sat on them, if that makes sense? still may be to much hastle though, as i said its been a long time! wont make too much sound difference anyway, its just if your really into the ' look ', im not really, dont look at my stereo too often!

How hard can it be fitting the relavant sized mdf ontop of the mirror bases to allow you to fit the tweeters flush. After a little retrim it will be hard to spot the difference.

Yes i have a passive competition 3 way crossover for the components & i also have a Phoenix gold 215x which is 2 way crossover plus eq.(not sure how im gonna use this yet :undecided:

i would find that pretty awkward to get right to be fair, unless there was some way to carpet the mdf and mirror back together so the mirror backs looked fatter then, if thats what you ment, go for it if you reckon it would look sound, how do you adjust your mirrors though?! I assume not on the mirror back!

tommk3cab "how do you adjust your mirrors though?! I assume not on the mirror back!".

The mirror adjusters are on the door cards arent they???.
If you covered the thicker mirror backs with leather  or speaker  cloth you would hardly notice the difference from original.

yeah they are like little lemonade bottletop shaped things ( but a bit bigger, and black) arnt they! i forgot, been a long time since i had mk2 dealings, arguably the best mk golf though. im not too keen on the newer ones, ive always had a thing for a nice mk1 (especially the cabs!) as well.

dinx has the nicest mk1 cab ive seen. http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=1077

yeah if you can get the mirror backs off easily id go with that.

Brought a 8v h reg golf off the back of a truck on the way to the breakers for 2 reasons .
1. it had some nice 5 spokes with good tyres all round worth £120 .
2. The body was pretty clean & straight & in black.

The story gos that the car engine packed up on the previous owner , who decided in anger to throw the keys into in distgust .
When he cooled down he couldnt start his car due to a alarm & immobilser.
He called the AA who hacked the loom under the dash area in a attempt to start it .
They also smashed the ignition barrel in this vain attempt.

This is when i brought it & decided to clean up all the wiring & replace the engine & dash (which were both nackerd).
All work under the bonnet is done & the car starts up.

Ive managed to repair nearly everything inside bar the indicators ,hazards & mfa.
Once these thing are repaired ill have the dash back on & adjust the heater vents to allow the 130mm components to sit in position.

This car is my last mk2 & a total diy product from start to finish. This will include any mods like Audi door handles & spray work (hopefully to a good standard).

Im a total novice but willing to learn as i go along .
