Hi

I bought a MFD2 from ebay about 4 months ago, a CD version, from navi555.
The unit is easy to install if you have any DIY skills you should be able to do it yourself.
Its should be a direct swap, there are quite afew DIY's on the internet if you do it yourself.

One thing I found was the location of the gps antenna is very important regarding reception. Alot place it inside the dash but I found the sat reception was crap so I have mine in the headlining near the rear view mirror. Another thing to look out for is the NAV CD/DVD the one I got with the unit is a 06 copy which works fine, I bought what I thought was an original 06/07 Teleatlas CD from ebay but it is a piece of crap and doesn't work all the time now and after checking it appears its a knockoff. Buying an CD direct from Teleatlas now.

I know some aftermarket ones have better functionality, touch screen etc but the MFD2 is fine. I have a Nokia car kit plugged in and an Ipod interface instead of a cd changer and it all works perfectly. Right the mfd2  does not have "birds-eye" view etc but with the directions as voice announcements I have found it great. Most of all it looks OEM.

Cheers Dave N

I also have a Parrot CK3000 BlueTooth kit plugged into my RCD300 (which came with the car) so when i change the units over i'll have to figure out how to wire that back up.
How did you get the antenna up in the rear view mirror?

I routed the cable behind the glovebox then up along the edge of the A-pillar. You cna then feed the cable in the font edge of the headlining until you get to the centre. Then pull the headlining down a bit and push the antenna in, mine is at the dotted area begin the mirror which apparently has not metalized coating in that area. The antenna is not visable from the drivers side and from the exterior you cant see it either.

The car kit should be fine, just unplug the connector from the RCD 300 and plug it in the the MFD2, the car kit audio is on a little seperate plug that should be easy to plug in.

By the way I think the audio improved over the RCD300.

That DVD unit looks cheap as I paid £350 for my CD unit.

I've been looking into this, as I've just ordered my GTI and refuse to pay full price for the Satnav! Dj.Kolia on e-bay seems to be a preferred source according to what I've found on various forums, and the latest 'C' model (£499) allows you to play a CD as well as navigate - beware, I don't believe that earlier versions do... He reports to be UK-based, too, which would provide me with a bit of reassurance.

I'm also tempted due to the reported increase in audio quality, although I wonder whether this might be dictated by the number of speakers - RCD300 owners will only have 8 installed, whereas if we'd specififed a 500 or MFD 2 then we'd have 10........
Diamond Black Golf GTI, DSG, Monza IIs, Cruise, MFSW, Rear Tints and Ipod. VRmmmmmmmm!

I would get the "C" version if it was black like the previous versions but it has silver buttons and stuff and they look tacky and cheap

So on versions A and B you cant navigate and listen to music ?

I have only just bought a MFD2 cd version from dj Kolia for £389 and no problems with it.  Unit, GPS antenna, code card and 2006DX cd with TMC.  Just followed the Doc's advice about taking off the top vent, airvents, etc.  Took out my RCD300.  The only thing I had to do was to make a cut on one of the aerial connectors on the mfd2 for the cable to fit.  Placed the GPS antenna in a gap between the top air vent and the dash (where there is a bulge) and put everything back together.  Works a treat.  Best thing I have bought for my car yet.
