Which do i get? 8v or 16 v????

from experience, if your after something comfortable fast, great on motorways get a mk3 16v  if your after something for back lane fun get a mk2 8 or 16v depending on driving style.  and never get a mk3 8v unless you enjoy caravaning and cheese tasting

Bought a Mk3 8v    sorry i like cheese!!
 
5 dr heated leather,a/c, fvwsh,2 owners, 107k  bit slower than my M5 but its for getting to work and back!!

Just need to jazz it up a bit!

8V is cheaper and yes has loads more torque! I have got a MK1 GTI 1.8 8V Kent cam pollished and ported etc goes very well with better power down bottom revs. The previous owner said he wooped a MK2 GTI 16V hands down in my car!

Mine feels a bit flat? was owned by an old guy who never thrashed it or gave it any- so prob needs loosening up!

16v has more torque than a 8v.

do your homework. or at least read the rest of the posts first.

topic - welcome and hope you have a good time wi the new motor! i doubt wi that kinda milage it needs 'loosened up'

You are right about the torque hanks for informing me. It must be just my engine is quicker with more torque as its tuned. Standard engine compaired are only 12Nm difference though.

Every time you drive it make sure you hit the rev limiter in a low gear 2nd or 3rd. Once you have done this a few times it will tell the black box you mean business!

Well as much as you can do in an 8v!

Jesus H...who gives a monkeys nuts wether you have an 8v or a 16v!!! there aint that much of a difference for me to give a s***t (and yes I have an 8 valver) mayber those of us who have a Mk111 gti 8v have our own forum!! come on.......its not the size that matters, but what you do with it!!......I know some peeps are well passionate about the details, but I really do like the GTI's.....and anyway I'm still pissed at the fact some pikey scum keyed my car.......AAAAAGGGGHHHHH.....apologies in advance......
