TT Magnetic dampers on a GTI?
« on: 27 March 2007, 08:56 »
Ok the new TT is lighter - but would it work for the Golf? - can you tune the dampers to give the perfect compromise between ride and handling?

Not with your Golf, as I believe (though stand to be corrected) that the magnetic dampers are continuously monitored and controlled via an ECU.

Does the GTI and TT not have the same 2L FSI engine and therfore the same ECU? Me to stand to be corrected!

block is same but the rest is heavily revised if i remember correctly.

ECU would be different i suspect to take into account all the changes.  Certainly worth investigating further i reckon

DOH misread your post!  I'm on about the 2.0T in the new S3 which has 265BHP

in your case there is a good chance it would be the same ECU.

It may share the same 2.0T FSI lump, though in a different state of tune, so therefore the engine ECU would probably be the same.  However, the 3.2 VR6 uses a different engine management system to the four-pot turbo!

However, you miss the point.  Modern cars these days have around 35 different ECUs, and the body control ECU which would work the magnetic dampers would be completely different between the Golf and the TT.

For the engine only - not the chassis control ECUs!

Too many bloody ECU's floating around if you ask me! Whatever happened to the good old days when you just had a steering wheel and your backside to tell you what was going on!!
