Have finally started the work on a smoothed tailgate!
Well I had stripped it and started sanding off the paint when the Mouse went pop!
Bought a replacement and a Dremel set so will get on with it again!

Made the cuts! (yesterday)
Got some sheet metal today so bit of cutting/bending then the welding up!
Have taken pics of work so far and will post as soon as I can be bothered to load them up!

The other side was better but no photo! 

So then I bent up the sloping sides so they are now kind of vertical.
(well at 90 degrees to the plate back)

So here is both sides now ready to weld up and infill metal.

Got some nice sheet metal from a local steel stockholders so will be cutting and welding that onto the hatch to fill the two holes!

Oh and a folded piece across the top to replace the plastic lip.

Next problem is going to be a hatch release button.
May be able to use the old one turned around 180 degrees but that depends how that positions the rod attachment!
Have thought of trying a Passat boot release as that would suit but again depends on the rod attachment!

Not done anything on this since last post as I got on and finished my pond/waterfall!

Had a job to do on the Golf ( PS drive belt ) so thought while I was at it I would do a new cold air feed.

I had a kind of trumpet end from out of the bottom of the airbox so made this fit into the mesh.



Here's the shiny new ducting going into the airbox!

Seem to have the car bug again so maybe I'll get back onto that tailgate!
