Now this is the latch how it looks as standard.
You see the angled flange, which is on both sides, I cut that nearly all the way down so I could change the angle.

So next I used a load of filler to hold the flange in the new position and this is how it sits in there.

As you can also see I cut out a big sqaurish hole where the VW badge indent was!

So next will to cut and shape the flat metal plate that will cover the latch.
Will leave the VW hole til last so I have some access to the back of the latch and find a way of securely fixing it!

Did a bit of playing around today as you can see from the pics in Dub Rides.

Also been measuring up the plate to go over the front and working out that it cant be dead flat, it will have to bow outwards in the middle.
Plus the top of the recess is not straight! So will have to curve that as well.
So much for the easy bit!

Well it was relatively easy! But lot more work to get it to look right!

Oh and the plate has a double section edge, I bent over 1/2 an inch and hammered it flat. Did this for a smooth edge and a little extra strength as I will be pulling the hatch open with this plate.

Well I have decided I dont like how it is! So that plate will be coming off!

I will have to find a way of sinking the latch in so it doesnt create a hump in the plate!

Fitted a new tyre front nearside and noted a water leak!
New radiator required.
