fix those clocks !!!!!!!!!!!
« on: 23 January 2004, 22:13 »
We need an electronics expert?

So many people have posted with the same problem - broken MFA/rev counter.
The traditional remedy being replacing clocks or shelling out ?140 to fix the old ones..

Now then. There must be a simple way to fix our old clocks..
There must be someone out there who knows how.

I've read that the clocks "blow a small internal component".
Someone somewhere must know how to remedy this??

We can all use a soldering iron, there must be a way..

Even if we could only get the rev counter to work.  I'm sure many people would be happy with this.

If anyone has the time and the knowledge to look for the answer,
I think they'd become a forum hero!!

here's hoping....................................

I agree, this is a long standing problem. I am sure the fix is not that complicated. Anyone ?.

Even the name/address/tel. no where this can be done for 140 quid would be appreciated. I've just had my '91 8v into a VW dealer and they are quoting me 279quid(!!) for a new instrument cluster alone!! (plus VAT and fitting). I still find it hard to believe that I need a new one when mine still comes to life from time to time. Think I'm going to have a look at the connections myself.

there is a small voltage regulator on the back of the clocks that sometimes fails, this just pushes into the back of the clocks and costs about ?7 to replace

Can this be bought separately? If so, from where?

G'day Gents, its not often I leave the world of the old mk1, but thought I would have a look and see how the younger generation is doing.
I have just got my hands on a second set of clocks for My Cab, and am pretty sure the MFA is the same as the mk2, so as you all have had some problems with your MFA's, I will take a look and see if I can figure the problems out.
I have been an electronice engineer for quite sometime now, so Hopefully may be able to figure out what you should be looking for at test points, etc.
Should have the clocks delivered in a couple of weeks, so you may have to wait a while

I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture
