mk2 speakers

can anyone help me with the sizes of speakers that are in a mk2 and if anyone has used a certain make that sound really good,whether they were cheap or costly,just want some advice as my golf needs the sounds sorting out and just wanted to know some views so i can choose my path! many thanks in advance!

there should be some rear speakers i think which are 6X4 but the front i don't know some mk2 have speakers in the door cards plastic trim at the bottom and tweeters in the dash but some only have speakers in the dash.

thanks bud,mines got some supposed mac audio in the doors,gotta have a full re-fit of my stereo tho as im not sure that even half of what i got are working!

As said the rears are 6 x 4 and the fronts door pods hold 5.5 inch or 13 cm

the dash ones by the window are a well dodge size, are they 10 or 8cms? correct me if im wrong, but look bigger than they are anyway, some of my mates have bought 13cms and had some fitting problems. The mk3s have that pretty much sorted though as they (or mine at least) have factory fit tweeters in there, which are going good so far, wouldnt want to blow them though as fitting new ones (or disconnecting the old ones even!) will be quiet a task ( no screws visable! )

What problems have your mates had with the fitting of 13cm speakers ?

in the dash tweeter bits in a mk2, they are like 10 or maybe even 8 cm, 13cms will fit (just!) but it mishapes the dash plastic and can snap it. im pretty sure this was the case in the mk2s, best way is to take them out and see, the door speakers im not too sure of, never seen any at all!

cheerz for all the input people! been looking about for some 6x4's and found a good set of jbl's for 18.99 on the bay! as for the doors,i will be taking em to bits today to see if they are  connected so will get some measurements and let u know what the crack is with them!  thanks again!

Apologies for hijacking the thread, Tom when you said your mates had probs fitting 13cm speakers I thought you meant in the doors ! I've never seen that size in the dash and imagine it would be a nightmare to fit oversize speakers into such a small space, the correct size for the dash speakers are 3.5 inch and in my first Golf I fitted these :-

They were a tight fit and I had to solder the connections as there wasn't enough room for spade end connectors, but the fuss was worth it as they sounded way better than the crappy standard ones

no worries bud,they look sweet and reasonably priced too! trying to make the gti mine at the mo,having got it 2 wks ago,i still havent really done anything to make it mine yet,but im trying today!
