quick question about swapping speakers
« on: 28 December 2006, 18:42 »
hi tried searching but no luck. i was wondering i have currently have 6x4s and were hopping to add 6x9s. is it a straight swap i.e just swap wires from old speakers onto new speakers or is there more to it?

Thanks

Basically so long as they're not too big for the amp and assuming you've accounted for the different physical sizes.

Wiring wise, it's a straight swap, but you won't get 6x9s in the standard locations.  Better off upgrading your door speakers.

yeah i don't have door speakers i think i have dash speakers and rear speakers.  i plan on buying better dash speakers and 6x9s to fit in my custom speaker box. i will use the wiring from the 6x4s to power the 6x9s.

so when wiring the speakers does it matter which wire goes on which terminal?

Well they'll work but if you mix the wires up you'll have speakers out of phase and you'll get frequencies being cancelling out and stuff. Short answer you need to keep the wires the same which shouldn't really be hard

Speakers move air by shifting back and forwards, with out of phase speakers one's pushing while the other is pulling if you get me. If you're happy with the sound then don't sweat it, I doubt it'd be that noticable, but it's still something that would annoy someone like me
