Picture of 8valve digifant alternator setup required
« on: 18 September 2006, 15:39 »
Hi,

For some reason my alternator belt does not fit correctly, a picture of the correct setup would help....

This is a really easy one I know, but I cannot get the belt tight.... argh!!!

I've only just read this thread and it's dark now, but I'm working on the car tomorrow so I can post one then if it's any use?

PAS or not? Different belts and easily mixed up by your supplier - speaking from experience
Non PAS Length: 950mm Width: 10mm
PAS Length: 866mm Width: 11.2mm
Not a lot of difference but enough.

Is that right?  The Non PAS is longer thant he PAS one?  I thought it would be the other way round.

I'm not sure, but our golf's got PAS. All I remember is that I had a problem with the listings in halfords, so Slick & I just took the old belts in.
Barkstar, where'd you get that data from?

Hmmm....

That looks just like mine, however my belt is insanely loose!....... Im sure it is the same belt aswell..... unless this engine, being a newer one has PAS, and the pulleys must be different, that must be the reason.

I think PAS was added by default in 90> cars....

My car is pre 90 so the belt is long now being on a 90> digifatn engine..... It must be that the pulleys are different and belts?

Does the PAS pump sit near the alternator, I poresume it would?

could this be correct?

Many thnks for the fotos!!!!

Without looking, I think the PAS pump is towards the bottom of the engine, near the crankshaft pulley. I think...
As for lengths, not being at work atm I wouldn't know. Is the belt you've got much longer? You could always take the longer belt in and look at what they've got on the shelves, then pick a shorter one. Most places will take them back as long as they're not special order.
