all fine and dandy now

changed thermostat and the fan today kicked in once it got warm

i think i found the water problem as its been drinkin alot since i bought it
the water flange on the front of the head and on the side has a tiny leak
i noticed when i was puttin water back in so i will change gaskets tomorrow

but i still dont no why my heaters wont warm up
any other things i can check to make them work?

common places for leaks those, just get 2 new ones from VW, the plastic ones can warp with age.  As for heaters, have you taken the bypass valves out yet?

follow the feed & return pipes to the matrix, they're next to each other and pass through the back of the engine bay.  If there is a pair of valves chopped into them with a smaller pipe between the 2, you have the bypass valves fitted.  Either remove and patch the ends together with some copper pipeing, or buy 2 new uncut hoses for £10 each from GSF.
