Probably been asked time and time again but I have searched the forum and only seem to be able to find bits and pieces of advice, nothing conclusive really.

I have a Mk2 1.8 8v digifant and have just got my hands on a 2.0 8v engine from a mk3 (2e engine code) so wanted to know if anybody could provide me with a list or possible step-by-step guide as to the conversion?

The engine didn't come with the dizzy or the power steering pump unfortunately but I've read the power steering pump from my pb will bolt straight on (looks the same fittings).  The main confusion I'm having is to specifics such as what dizzy to use.  Seen a few posts saying use the 2e dizzy but then I have seen other posts about spacers and bigger gear to convert the PB dizzy?

Have pulled the engine to pieces (not fully yet, just split to sump/block/head) and the pistons don't look pitted so might get away with not having to do a full re-build however I will still be replacing the piston rings, belts, bolts/fastenings and gaskets (so any advice on which gaskets etc. would be great)

Thanks in advance

Ian

mine has a spacer but that came on the engine when i bought the donor car.im now rebuilding a new bottom end so im just taking parts from my engine and swaping them over.
on the front of the engine theres what looks like an oil breather or sumik its a black box with a pipe that comes off it and a part that plugs into the engine with a rubber seal  on it.on mine that was removed and a cover plate was engineered to fit the hole and then a hole was drilled into the block and a thread was tapped to take a fixing to clamp it in place alot like the clamp that hold the dizzy????.you will also need a cover plate to cover where the other half of that breather box comes off which sits above the the oil filter housing.im sure you could probably buy these bits by now though but i wouldnt know where sorry :undecided:.id post some pics but moby wont connect to the pc.cos its really hard to explain.its sumik that will pop up and do your nut cos i dont think you can run it with out???the only person i would ask is rubjonny hes the guru!

Its a late 90 mk2 and I wasn't aware I would need the loom as I am also going to be mating my 1.8 pb head to the 2e bottom end.

So any more information on the oil breather at the front and the required dizzy?

Cheers

you dont need the loom dude just plug it straight in! the breatgher at the front of the engine you need the cover plate for the bit on the right and so ive heard a core plugg fits straight into the hole no probs.my dizzy has the spacer like i said dont know where you would get that part from

I need to cover it with a plate? I have read that a breather pipe/filter - possibly green filters/piperx etc. would be better as a plug would cause too much oil pressure build up?

Again, I these are only things that I've read so wanting to clear things up before I break anything

I believe TSR do the adaptor plates but you would have to ring them for a price. I also think they do that dizzy spacer....

my engine was mainly built by tsr they did all the head work and supplied gaskets etc its possibl;e that they supplied the blanking plates.i havent heard of any oil pressure build up befor and it certainly didnt matter with mine.if putting a breather on it helps and you do it let me know as i will change mine to suit.

ive just taken my 2.0 out same engine code and replaced with 1.8 mine was running on 1.8 loom its only a few wires and pretty much simple to wire from what ive seen, ive had to change my dizzy back to a 1.8 one so i guess you will need a new one?

can i ask why you decided to change to a 2.0? i was pretty disappointed with the power of my 2.0, i hope it runs a lot better with the 1.8 back in it
