You did it in a day

I've not even started stripping down the bottom end yet as England being England it rains more often than not and we've been clearing out the garage so we have some indoor space to work.  My step-dad's a plumber and he's basically used the garage to store old boilers for spares so it's taken a few weekends for the trips to the local tip.

Hopefully get the garage finished today and crack on with stripping the bottom end. Thinking that it's going to be a full re-build with the exception of the pistons if the chambers aren't scored.

Whilst I'm in the learning mood, how does having the bottom end lightened and balanced affect the motor? Local grinders can do all the work apparently and it's only down the road, if it's going to increase performance I might aswell get it done whilst it's out.

Cheers

Ian

from what i can work out its only any good for sprinting not too clever for every day drive.
ive had a major set back with mine!the head had to come off again!! my own fault!some how a 10mm bolt found its ay into the head jamming an inlet valve causing it to bend now waiting for anew valve to trefit on wednesday and get her running again.
the advice i was giving was to just to the head work and have the fly lightend that will be enough to give you plenty of touque then next real step is a 16v with fat carbs!

Ahh no problem, I wont bother having it all lightened and balanced then, saves me a little extra cash

Finally got the crank pulley off (what a biatch!) and the bottom end stripped, the cylinders look nice and clean and we've masked it all up and given her a splash of paint or two

Just have to wait until after the bank holiday now to get the parts for a re-build before we can start putting it all back together.

Cheers

Ian
