You did it in a day

I've not even started stripping down the bottom end yet as England being England it rains more often than not and we've been clearing out the garage so we have some indoor space to work. My step-dad's a plumber and he's basically used the garage to store old boilers for spares so it's taken a few weekends for the trips to the local tip.

Hopefully get the garage finished today and crack on with stripping the bottom end. Thinking that it's going to be a full re-build with the exception of the pistons if the chambers aren't scored.
Whilst I'm in the learning mood, how does having the bottom end lightened and balanced affect the motor? Local grinders can do all the work apparently and it's only down the road, if it's going to increase performance I might aswell get it done whilst it's out.
