I was just wanting that bit more power from the same 8v system and 2litre standard over a 1.8 bored out has to be more reliable.

The most power to be had is obviously from head work, which will be to follow when finances allow

Basically the car is a nice base and I have already had my seats re-trimmed in black leather with white stitch and custom embroidered vw logo's on the fronts.  Currently sitting in my boot are new ball joints, new track rod ends, new wishbones with pressed in poly bushes, new solid front engine mount and new g60 rear mount all waiting to be fitted once then engine is done.  The engine itself is currently in my garage, stripped down and awaiting a re-build

Even though she's an everyday runner I want it to be a nice example.  The plan is to complete my interior and eventually fit a custom CarPC

when i did this conversion on my last dub i couldnt find much info and had no end of problems due to using bit and pieces from different engine, i couldnt have my motor off road for more than 2 days, but if u got time i would use just them 2.0 bottom end, find a 2e dizzy as they fit into wiring(as long as its deffo didi ur old lump) if i was to do this again i would use

mk3 2e engine and dizzy
ur pb head including manifold and inlet manifold, and anything else from mk2 u can see
and ur mk 2gearbox

as for breather system at front of engine if u got complete enginge from mk3 use the mk3 rocker cover and plumb it all in that way or just put a piper x breather on the pipe coming from block(as i did no problems there)
as i used mk2 gearbox i used mk 2 uprated clutch( easy enough as u have the whole lot apart anyway)
u need a mk 3 cam belt and new cam belt tensioner
i used a metal head gasket which i believe to have been for the g60??someone else will tell u wot model car it was for but it was three layered metal gasket
while u got it apart and funds allowing i would replace oil pump too

as for putting it together it should all mate up nicely as mine did, just take ur time and double check everything
the 2l bottom end conversion wont give u much more speed but will improve tourque greatly

think thats it hope it helps

Just the info I needed  but one other thing whilst I'm on... If I were to do a re-build of the engine where would I get the components from? - GSF website seem to do piston rings etc. for the mk2 but nothing listed on there for the mk3.

Thanks in advance

if u can i would buy internal engine parts from vw, some of the other companys are known for using non standard stuff, if it was me i would stick with genuine parts as best i could but its all each to there own
have u tried gpc in luton they sell genuine stuff??

i did this time round.yesterday i got up at 8am fitted a new clutch, dragged the lump to my car fitted it and then built the head new followers etc all in one day on my own!!god im so impressed with myself!lol
im not a mechanic and have had help from a few friend naminly mr crean and the other would be rubjonny the guru!!!its all very easy once you start to understand it all.
the origonal 8v engine was replaced by me and a friend which came in a donor car along with a big brake conversion, full leathers and five stud hubs and speedline rims from an audi a4.then on saturday befor spring gti fest it let go which put a big hole in piston no1. so i got myself another mk3 2ltr bottom end from a friend and thats what ive just put in myself.just put my old head on it which had been ported, skimmed, polished and gas flowed with a big shrik cam which is where all the grunt comes from not to mention the stainless four branch i have just got.its cheaper to do it yourself than to pay somebody else!
