track rod end removal

I am trying to change the hub on my 89 gti 8 valve, how do i ghet the track rod end bolt through it wont budge, i have removed the nut obviously, cheers  :smiley:
i must buy a new car!

I remember snapping a set of mole grips on mine before someone suggested heating it up with a welding torch... Worked a treat....

get a copper hammer and beat the hell out of the hub. so on the part that houses the track rod end. it should pop out that way.

Get one of these from Halfords, popped that b!tch off in 5 seconds  :cool:

A welding torch will also nicely cook the nylon bearing rendering it useless.

Does your car now wander all over the road??

Usually just put the nut back on enough to protect the thread, a few smart taps around the housing and one on the nut and it should pop out.

lol yeah kick its head in!!!lol i think i need theropy????lolusing tha tool for the job is the best policy as they are pretty cheap and the chances are you will need it again im sure!since rebuilding mine i have purchased many specilaist tools and beleive they do get used. :wink: :grin:

It depends!
If you have PAS both sides screw off, if you don't from the factory only the driver side is threaded on, the passenger side is fixed so you'll need a complete track rod.  Though this doesn't mean it hasn't been done in the past so have a look!

The way it works is the end threads onto the track rod, then is locked in place with a locking nut.
