i have recently bought a mk4 gti when i picked it up i thought the stereo sounded a bit crap a few weeks later i looked into the problem. the muppet that owned the car before me had replaced the fronts with phoenix gold components and the rears with kenwood 3 way co ax speakers ive turned them off for now and am just using the fronts which sound ok but they are an old model and was thinking about buying 2 x sets of 6 1/2" components for the front and rear any recomendations i dont mind buying an amp to get the best sound out of them i have a gamma head unit and dont realy want to change this as i have a phat noise what do you guys have in your motors or do you think i would be best just trying to get hold of a set of original speakers?

are you running a sub??

if you are i wouldnt bother with the rear speakers you get a decent sound out of front comps and a sub, if you are just going to be running the 2 sets of comps then def amp them they will be a lot better.

what sort of budget do you have??

well make sure you get the amp and speakers at the same time they dont like being run off the headunit then amped at a later date.

ive been running powerbass comps for the last 6 months and have found them very impressive they have great power handling and a good sound. i would recommend them if you want something a bit different.
