**Whats Wrog with my Dodgy Oil buzzer ?????**
« on: 11 November 2005, 00:13 »
Hi ppl i have a 88 mk2 gti 16v golf, and now and again the oil pressure buzzer will come on, the oil is fine and topped up,and its not the head gasket or anything like that,it seems to only happen after i drive it quite hard,it could just be a dodgy wire because when it comes on i just have to quickly turn sharpley and it will go off,but it only really comes on when i drive hard, any info would be great, cheers

it could well be the strainer on the uplift is blocked slightly i think its a common fault not just on gti's but on more standard vw as it did it to me on my old jetta.i have to say the top half of the engine seezed up and stripped the cam belt totaly fooking it.when i swaped the engine i noticed there were a build up on the strainer also present there were bits of plastic that had broken off the dip stick carrier.be care ful it might not be that simple as a dodgy wire it could lead to an expencive rebuild!!good luck! jamie

If you're putting a new sump gasket on then it should be an easy enough job..it's usually a film of oil covering the strainer stopping it from flowing properly...or it could just be a dodgy connection on the sensor  :undecided:

better safe than sorry tho

thats a great idea???????not!!are you gonna pay for the rebuild if the strainer is blocked?dont listen to that dude it could turn out to be big trouble!besides that the when the buzzer comes on to tell you you are low on oil its too late the damage has already started which is why you should keep an eye on your levels all the time to insure the quality of your engine.even vw say that you shouldnt wait for the buzzer to tell you cos by that time your levels are way too low ,in the real world it should sound befor it actualy does.my advice is to put your blinkers on to all other advice that tells you to do sumik like dissconnect the buzzer!good luck, jamie
