OBD11 Information
« on: 17 July 2026, 17:58 »
Hi,

I’ve just got my new 8.5 clubsport and purchased an OBD11 so that I could tweak a few things. However 2 of those that I wanted to amend were the lane assist and traffic sign speed warnings. Neither of these are supported on the 8.5. The other one that I wanted to do was remove the soundaktor, which did work.

At first I thought it was because I’ve got a ghost2 fitted but even in service mode it made no difference. I made sure to follow the OBD instructions in the app and had the ignition on and bonnet up but it made no difference. I can’t see many other useful one click apps for the golf so may have to go pro or ultimate to see what else can be long coded.

Just wanted to let others know in case you were thinking about OBD11.

They are supported. I posted about it a couple of weeks ago in the “what did you do today” thread. I’ve disabled both of those (or made them remember to remain off) with obd11 on my 8.5 CS.

Well they are not supported on mine. The messaging in the app says ‘not supported’ and the select option at the bottom doesn’t turn blue. I was also surprised to find 87 faults when I first plugged it in. Lots of CAN-BUS issues. I wonder if these were due to the installation of the tracker and ghost2. I cleared them all, so will see if they return.

Hopefully at some point they will be supported on mine!

Make sure you’re using the latest OBD 11 app. There’s a couple of different apps.

I’d be very surprised if it works on one MK8.5 but doesn’t on another. That doesn’t make sense. I would be suspect of the Ghost, but I know a guy (also on here!) with a ghost-equipped 8.5 and it worked on his car too.

Hmmm, there was a VAG app as well, but I went for the other standard app. Which one do you use?

It is puzzling me I’ll be honest!

Yeah that’s the one I’m using. I’ll try it again tomorrow and see if it behaves any differently. Appreciate the assist. I wonder if VW have released an update to prevent the OBD control of these settings.

It might be SFD2 that’s restricting OBD11 coding changes. Doesn’t explain how @JoeGTI can make certain changes but you’re not able to though, unless Joe’s car is on a later software version that removes some of the restrictions?

My car is 18 months old (late 2024 build) and hasn’t had any software updates. For some reason, OTA updates don’t seem to happen on the 8.5, while they are frequent on the mk8!

It’s not beyond the bounds of possibility that newer builds than my car with newer software have locked out obd11 changes. Feels a bit unlikely. We need someone else with a fresh build, an Edition 50 perhaps, to try it and report back!

You could be onto something with the SFD2. My car is box fresh being only a few weeks registered. It did do a load of updates once I got it connected. Let’s see if anyone else with a new 8.5 has had better luck than me!
