So, the front engine cover or manifold cover was standard on the Mk7 and deleted from the 7.5.
One had to wonder
A : why VW fitted it originally and
B : why they deleted it
It costs £60 to £70 to buy this simple piece of plastic but ordering and fitting half a million would have cost VW literally pennies on a car with a list price of over £30K.
If it was good enough to fit in the first place then for goodness sake why not leave it in the spec???
I’m beginning to sound like Mr Angry from Purley. My wife says I’m like Victor Meldrew😂
At the risk of making your blood pressure even worse, the penny pinching goes even deeper, from the small but significant like deleting the under seat drawers and glove box lock to the the super stingy when they removed the tiny plastic trim triangles from the door mirror attachment bolts leaving them uncovered - that last one must’ve been literally tuppence per unit saved.
Yes, I’ve owned both manual and DSG examples and fitted the same footrest into 5x mk7’s and 2x mk8’s - the original plastic OEM DSG footrest is significantly wider than a manual version.
That’s interesting, if that’s the case how do these Chinese footrests sit over the top of the standard one, or does the standard one come out first?
Are they all generally the same quality, you’ve got good experience on these, which one is the best fitting Exonian?
The Chinese footrests replace the original plastic ones, they don’t cover them.
One bolt and some push in clips is all it takes, literally a ten minute job once you’ve found the torx bit at the bottom of your toolbox.
Quality wise I’d imagine they vary. I’ve used the same footrest over and again in each subsequent car. It’s got to be ten years old by now I’d think. Every time I change car I spend ten minutes swapping the footrest back over. Mine looks a bit ‘used’ but still pretty tidy all things considered.
The fit isn’t as perfect as OEM, it takes a bit more jiggling to seat it correctly, but that’s just mine, I’m sure most fit much better.
