Alloy / metal dead pedal
« on: 12 December 2024, 21:01 »
Hi all, does the mk7 dead pedal fit the mk8? I’m after something to replace or cover the black plastic one and match the alloy pedals. Seen a few on Amazon listed for mk7, just not sure if they fit.

Yeah they do. No difference as far as I know. I’ve seen this one recommended elsewhere:

Great thank you, that looks good. I’ve found similar on Amazon but quite a long lead time. Hoping the fit is good.

They looks suspiciously similar to the AliExpress ones you can get for £12. Unfortunately all of the RHD dead pedals available are made for manual transmissions and are narrower than the plain one that comes with DSG equipped cars. I had one for a while but went back to the original as it was more comfortable for my big feet.

Yeah it does look similar, maybe even the same one. Word is though that the quality of the Ebay/AliExpress ones are patchy whereas this one is apparently better quality / better made. Just relaying what I'd read on another forum.

I’ve an AliExpress one in my R and also my wife’s GTD both DSG. I've size 10 feet and it’s grand
The fit is fine maybe the quality isn’t 100% but I don't think it’s bad by any means and it’s one the floor and your foot sits on so not an issue for me

So, this is nutty “VW think”. You produce a car north of  £30k but you omit a feature costing maybe 5 Euros.
Like the 12v plug cover…..plain black plastic as opposed to the identical Audi plug costing maybe 3Eu more.
It’s all differential crap.
Like the front engine cover which used to be standard then omitted at a cost saving of ?????
Even worse on the Mk8 with a dreadful generic VW main engine cover and deletion of the hydraulic bonnet strut.
I love my Mk7.5 GTI but shake my head at the VW factory mindset.

With VW’s current financial woes, I’d anticipate more cost cutting to come during the mk8.5’s lifecycle rather than adding - or reinstating - little features such as those you’ve mentioned.

Another highly visible omission on the mk8 / mk8.5 is the sliding cover over the cup holders in the centre console which IMHO makes it look unfinished.
