Didn't know about the EX30 but after looking a Plus model with twin motors (sub 4 second 0-62) is only £40,000 like the Brabus

They certainly make good arguments for themselves. The Brabus more overtly sporty looking and the Volvo under the radar.

GR Yaris

I still kick myself for not buying one of the very first run where I was offered a slot and on 0% interest too.
Alas, I had a second car then and don’t anymore and I do, albeit very rarely, need the seats and extra doors for elderly relative ferrying.

Yes, great suggestion David, I’m sold on the idea of these but the ‘combover’ roof is a bit of an acquired taste.
Also the Volvo EX30 comes in 400+ bhp flavour at almost reasonable cost. Bit boring looking but the performance of these things makes 300bhp hot hatches look positively pedestrian.

Described by Volvo as “our smallest ever SUV” these barges weigh 2 tons!

Those Duracell batteries sure aren’t light.

They deliver the goods on the drag strip though!

Yeah, but does it have enough charge to get to the end of the runway?!

Probably does use most of the charge doing a run like that!
Mind you I expect those cars lined up next to it swallowed up most of a tankful of fuel too.
All good entertainment.

Porsche Macan? Small enough, definitely powerful enough, fits 5 & a dog, great build quality, lovely interior, good residuals, still drive great for an suv.

Megane RS? Better looking than a golf, drives better than a golf, only downside is it's French and the interior.

The Macan is a good suggestion, I’ve seen a few interesting looking examples zipping about full of hooray Henries on weekend jaunts down to Cornwall. The running costs would probably make my eyes water after a lifetime of econo-hatches.

The Megane I have huge respect for but it’s really not my cup of tea. I’d actually rather have the MG!!
It’s a bit hardcore for an old softie like me.

I was talking to a colleague on Monday whose other half has an Ibiza and wanted a Leon, he’s previously had a Leon FR and before that a Civic Type R.
I told her that Cupra were doing 0% finance so she immediately messaged him.
Fast forward less than 24 hours and I get told he’d been straight down to the dealership on Tuesday morning and stuck a deposit on a Leon VZ2 245PS.
They’re quite a compelling purchase with a great spec and well under the £40k tax in most guises. I could be sold on a 300PS one on 0%. “Could” but won’t be I’d imagine! But I’d buy one of those over another Clubsport at £42k or whatever they are now.
His son remarked to me that he preferred my Clubsport when I saw him in passing earlier. It’s an age thing maybe.

Yeah, the straight line performance equals a supercar but I wonder if the handling can match just a 122PS TSI MK7?
Now = 2011 MK6 GTI - Reflex Silver

I would say no to the Cupra, its a basically a Golf GTE with hybrid power https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/cupra/leon-hybrid/

Petrol only or full electric please!

There is a full petrol version too, in 245ps or 300ps.
