Interested in this as mine will be 3 years in May 24. Bongs have returned with a vengeance  last 2 weeks . Co-incidence that this is after OTA update? Still on original steering wheel as I was told it wouldn’t help replacing it. Do I keep going back whilst under warranty?
I kept my Mark 7 GTI for 5.5 years and can’t see anything that I like better than current one.
I was registered before but couldn’t remember password etc so had to re- register.

Welcome back! Have a word with jv about your log in. There might be a workaround.

Definitely keep plaguing VW to get it sorted. It’s not acceptable. Mine has been bong free for ages but as soon as they reappear if they do I’ll be straight back to VW. It’s distracting and downright dangerous at times.

I couldn’t see any glaring concerns with the All In vs the Extended.  And as you say, if bought on offer it’s excellent value. Really is worth a close look, although you then use dealer servicing which won’t suit all as we know.  I managed to get it at £25 per month. Still smiling. Haha.

At least sticking with dealer servicing, no matter how begrudgingly at times, it always sounds good at resale time and there’s little VW can argue as far as warranty claims go.

@BillSan, my faith in VW honouring sorting the bongs sans warranty is zero.

If VW had any interest in genuinely resolving the bongs, they'd have done it by now.

If you can live with the bongs and want a newish performance car regardless, stick with what you've got. From things you've said, I think we are of a similar age, so my priority would be clearing the mortgage asap and for that I'd be prepared to get a cheap runaround and put as much into the mortgage as possible, especially if the interest rate is high. I'm mortgage free and have been for a few years now and I thoroughly recommend it!

Paid previous mortgages off early and ended up blowing too much on cars instead, so moved again as at least (in theory) houses appreciate… 😁

I'm absolutely sure of that too Exonian.  When my lease is up the car will still be bonging away and I don't want to be held responsible for that.  I'll therefore make sure my VW dealer records the fault before my 3 year warranty ends.   If they can't fix it, the problem will still be theirs when I give it back after 4 years.

Hi Exonian,
Always enjoy your posts; makes  me chuckle at times.
I would keep it sir. Cost to replace is just daft these days. Got my GTI in November 2020 too. 22000 on the clock now and apart from two months off the road waiting for a part {at least I was given a Mk8 as a replacement car} its been fine.
Would be interested to see a Mk8.5 if/when but I guess the daft price and 12 month wait will put me off.

I'm keeping mine.... bongs or not.

I will be asking VW what the position is on software upgrades however I suspect that some time in 2024 there simply won't be any more software upgrades....

The whole episode has totally soured my love for VW I have to say.

I'll probably keep it until a milkfloat is feasible.

My daughter has an Audi Q4 e-tron Milkfloat and it’s a pretty stunning car, still have to plan any long journey carefully to ensure range is OK though, like you, no plans to move away from the Devil’s fluid.

I agree with that Fred. I suspect the MK 8 has now become something VW want to forget. I was so excited to be getting a new edition but never again. Still love the car though .

@Will, when it comes to me and luck there’s always a prefix of “bad” in front!
(I do rather like the posh Golf though and it’s even in the correct colour)

@Fred looks like there will be a few of us leaping into the unknown of a post warranty mk8 soon then

@Tony Jazz, you’re easily pleased that’s all I can say! Full rib ticklers are way beyond my level though 😁
I dread to think what the 8.5 will cost but then again if it’s on finance and VW want to shift them then they can adjust rates accordingly to make them more affordable. ID models are a prime example right now, nobody was buying them so they’re on 0% with a strong enough GFV to make them somewhat more attainable than they were not so long ago. They even have stock of the outgoing cars all of a sudden when back along attainability was less about the price and more about the waiting time for build slots.
