Mine has been in 3 times, previously they applied lithium grease which worked for 1 day. Took in today as they said they were going to replace the suspension bushes but after looking at these they said they were not defective so couldn’t replace so they applied more grease! Obviously the noise is coming from somewhere else. Won’t hold my breath the grease will cure it

It's a common fault and there's a TPI covering it, so your dealership should be well aware of what it is they need to do. I had the front suspension rebuilt and boots replaced on my latest Mk8 GTI, after only 1,400 miles. I am delighted to say that it seems to have solved the problem.

I started hearing the usual squeaking and rattling noises after only 1,200 miles and knew what it was straightaway. This is because I had the same problem on my last Mk 8 and the dealership went through the old Lithium grease routine on my first visit, before conceding just a few months later that the boots needed replacing. This time, they didn't even argue about going straight to the rebuild/replacement part option. Lithium Grease only masks the problem; it is not the answer.

It's a disgrace that this is still a relatively common fault, some four years after the Mk8 was first launched.

Phoned the dealership again today to book back in. Hopefully they can find out what the issue is and have mentioned maybe start looking at the CV Boots to start with. The creaking noise is worse when I first get in the car for the first few miles after that the noise isn’t as bad!?

My Golf R 7.5 creaked badly after the first year, sound came from the back of the car it seemed, mostly when reversing slowly and turning, they replaced some mounts but never fixed the issue completely, creaking was better but still there.

Now my MK8 Golf R is doing the same thing, when driving forward at slow speeds you hear a creak now and again from both front doors it seems, only slightly when moving forward, but in reverse the creaking of the doors are much louder. It could be from the chassis or somewhere else, hard to pin point but odd it sounds like its coming from both doors. Doesn't always do it and VW said pop in to demonstrate which could be a waste of time based on experience. Seemed to be worse when the car was hotter with the weather. This morning its colder and car did not creak!

Possibly the rubber seals on the doors. If under warranty dealer may lube with Krytox that should fix the issue.

If the creaking noise is coming from the doors, it could be that the rubber door seals have dried out. Certain wax based cleaning products (car shampoos or car wax) can also cause the creaking noise if they come into contact with the door seals. Applying a lubrication product such as VW’s Krytox or a cheaper alternative such as Gummi Pflege should cure it if it is the door seals that’s causing the creaking noise.

Krytox is expensive, but the effects last longer than with Gummi Pflege, although you get a much larger quantity of Gummi Pflege for your money, so plenty of product for more regular applications.

Just seen @ Adam T7’s post; great minds think alike!

I’ve recently tried Sailkote, a dry lubricant for marine applications (I had no idea it existed until a few weeks ago when I googled rubber seal cleaner). Seems to work well, easy to apply and not mega bucks at £40 for 300ml of Amazon. Works well on the suede type seals.

Mine went back in for the 5th time to VW and I went for a drive with the Technician so he could hear it. And typically it didn’t make a noise! Mine is worse in the colder weather but definitely coming from the front suspension. Showed him a video of the noise so waiting for them to come back to me for the next resolution!
