Thanks
So I have discover pro. Can anyone answer whether the sat should work without any sd card?

Also is there much difference between the discovery Pro on mine and discover pro on a 2017 on? They look totally different
Same updates for both?

Discover pro has an inbuilt HDD where the maps are stored as opposed to the maps being stored on the sd card.

I used a Samung sd card when I updated mine.

If you select the "until 2015" from the drop down menu it will guide you to the correct download.

Thanks for this, while I always use Google Maps, there is something satisfying knowing that you're up to date. Or is that just my OCD?

im a newbe on here.    i came on here today to see hhow to update maps on my mk7 gtd and after reading comments I gave it a go.    strait forward at first.
got the sd card out of car
downloaded the vw update software and it was lituarualy doing it for me minus the clicking of buttons that said it was doing a full Europe update.
(presume that's cos I'm on V4 maps)    asked where i wanted to save a backup again saw that on here so I selected a new folder to save that too.
then started the new update download once it got to installing it stopped and said not enough space on disk please clear data...
so I located the disk manually and formatted it as to suggestions in a few comments after this the program wouldn't let me continue as it said no sd card found.
so I closed the program and opened the backup to find the backup that was there has also disappeared now I'm stuck with no back up no maps just an empty sd card..... if there anyone on here that can help me

The stupid thing is the complete map update is bigger than the VW supplied SD card assuming you've not got Nav Pro??

If the SD card you removed is a VW one i would presume it's not Nav Pro.

Format the card again and try downloading another map bundle, I think I used bundle 6 which fits on the card and try again.

Can't remember if it needs to be FAT32 or NTFS but it tells you that in the download instructions.

Make sure your selecting the correct maps for your head unit as Nav Pro ones are different I think.

i have got a bigger sd card to take the bundle new maps,   the issue im having is iv downloaded the vw software and formatted the sd card the software does most of the work.  :takes frigging 2 hrs to down load every time i try to do it..  once down loaded it then verifies the download and starts the install  then come up saying error and to retry   which means 2 hrs of downloading again..     pissing me off now as not only has it wiped my origanal maps from 2014 iv spent money getting a bigger card to take the new maps and it doesnt work..

You can only use a VW card. It shoudln't be too big unlsess you are downloading the wrong maps. Are you updating Media or Pro?

Exactly... at first I tried several 32gb cards but realised the updates only worked on an original VW branded card.  As far as I know the last Bundle 1 map to fit on a 16gb card was version 13 (this came with my 2019 GTi), the closest you can get now is Bundle 6 on v15.7 unless you need Spain which it doesn't include.

I've never used the download software, just download to your desktop then drag/drop to the SD card, yes it does take a while depending on your laptop/PC.

I'm sure you can get a 32gb VW card from EBay if you're willing to pay what some are asking for them, not sure if dealers still have any, I suspect if you're a computer whizz then you could clone the VW setup.

It is NTFS, if you format it to FAT32, it doesn't fit as the download size says it is 16GB and the card is only 14GB

Cloning does not work. There are hidden bytes that won't copy across and are not visible. They are a part of the sd card manufacturing process. Tried it myself

Can't believe after 8 years this is still a discussion. Download the update, unzip the file using 7zip, make a copy of your original card, move the unzipped data across to the root of the SD card. All of the information is clearly stated on the VW navigation page. Bundle 6 fits on original 16gb VW SD cards and bundle 1 now doesn't unless you buy a new VW 32gb card. The SD card must be formatted in Fat32 not NTFS as previously said.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.
