Literally took a gamble as I found it on eBay, then visited dealers website & emailed my offer to them. Replied to say most he could take off was £490, & I’d have to pay £300 delivery, so really only £190 reduction in price. Eventually got it down by £890 & free delivery. Seen a few around & been in normal golfs, but not driven one, always wanted one so this forum has really whetted my appetite from looking at peoples posts and pics. Not many cars in this price bracket look anywhere near as nice (IMO). Driven DSG on a track day a couple of years ago in an R8, GTR & Lamborghini, but they’re a little out of my budget

Regarding washing I do use snow foam and never use car washes as like doing it myself, love the sound of “Dragons Breath”, won’t be using the purple rain I’ve got left on the golf alloys...

Best thing to do is clean the wheels thoroughly off the car and then apply a good quality coating. Makes washing them really easy and brake dust doesn't stick either.

Now that is spot on. I’ve been using ArmorAll wheel shield for a few years. Makes cleaning them next time an absolute breeze!

My god, it arrived today, it’s even better in the flesh than it looked in the sales pics/video. I’ve changed the glovebox bulb to an LED one and swapped to my private plates already!!! Next step is giving it a full once over from top to bottom over the weekend. Sat in it to get familiar with the gadgets & got out with a lovely warm bottom 😊. Once I’d worked out how the keyless locking worked I was ok (was pressing line bit on door handle to lock when having hand on sensor inside too!). Sure I’ll be back here when I hit a snag, thanks for everyone’s input & stay safe.

Glad you are pleased. The two mk7's I've had have been the best cars I've ever had.

I'm just a normal guy mind you, never had anything more expensive, but for the people's car it's cracking.

I’m 44 (born in 76 like the gti), it’s the 1st car I’ve spent over £12k on & it’s looking like a fine investment 😀

Over the years I’ve had cars that have cost considerably more than a GTI from BMW, Mercedes and Land Rover and every time I drive, clean or do anything on my GTI I think why did I not do this years ago? The build quality is superb, performance is spot on and it looks the dogs, 2 years of ownership and zero regrets.

I've had almost exactly these thoughts after 2 years ownership. No less refined and comfortable than my 6 cylinder E46 BMW 330ci sport, really not far behind on quality- but the golf is far more fun to drive and own.
I don't dislike my work, by any means- but the drive to work in the morning is still a highlight of my day.
